the bat-suit revealed

a glimpse of the "new" Bat-suit for the Batman Begins' sequel The Dark Knight has been revealed online [via/via] with descriptions found on EW-online by costume designer Lindy Hemming :)

looks like a kitbashed-1/6 figure, innit? IMHO (1/6-hobbyists would recognize the use of knee-guards as shoulder-guards in our collective kitbashes LOL) and suddenly the Batsuit is filled with textured layers with an explanation for each and every fold and crease, innit? ... altho not to be a naysayer, but sometimes i wonder: why is there a need to complicate things?

what started out as a simple sleek translation from comic-panel to celluloid-negative with Anton Furst/Bob Ringwood's Batman suit for Michael Keaton in Tim Burton's version, quickly mutated evolved into the layered-monstrosity of today ... why does everybody seem to wanna fcuk with the Batsuit?

*more after the JUMP*

heck even Spiderman knew to keep it close to the cloth, but no - Batman has suddenly turned into a saturday morning cartoon, with multiple suits for multiple missions and uses - which basically sells the rich man being able to afford a new suit everytime he destroys one, innit? so in actuality, you're not fighting the man behind the mask, you're fighting Bruce Wayne's money.

A VISUAL HISTORY OF THE BATSUIT (movie version)

it started out fine, with a simple adaptation from the comicbook imagery
(thank gawd they hid played-down the underwear-on-the-outside look LOL

then slowly it developed into a mockery of anime-mecha-proportions, understandably to enhance movement of the talents wearing them, but still it looked like a hyped-up robot-suit than anything else, IMHO. but of coz i lapped it up serendipitously during my less discerning youth ... *heh*

personally, tis Christian Bale that makes the Batman-persona here, rather than the suit itself. on-left is the new design, while on-right is from Batman Begins - again, over-complicating the entire design, IMHO ... but i reckon "tatses" have changed thru the years, if not for the audience, then for the merchandising demo, yeh?

maybe all it needs is a buff dude inside a simple suit? (even the underwear-on-outside would work, but don't forget the cod-piece) *muahahahahaha* ... but enough of my Batsuit-blabbering, here's a breakdown of the NEW Batsuit (with entire description lifted from EW-online)
01. Ever wonder why movie Batmans rarely turn their horned heads? It's because the cowls of past suits were firmly attached to the neck and shoulders of the costume — necessary to maintain that iconic silhouette and to prevent the actor from moving around inside the mask. The new headpiece — modeled after a motorcycle helmet — is separate from the neck, so star Christian Bale can now swivel his noggin side to side, or nod up and down.

02. Don't bother asking. ''It's top secret,'' says Hemming. Meaning...? ''Let's just say things happen to the cloak.''

03. The razors on Batman's forearms are actually part of the suit. (His gloves tuck into the sleeves of the suit.) They're retractable, and yep, they're weapons. ''They shoot at people!'' says Hemming with a Jokersesque laugh.

04. The new suit is made of 200 individual pieces of rubber, fiberglass, and nylon and metallic mesh. Bruce Wayne's work duds now have a stylish texture, suggesting they're made with sophisticated new technology. ''I thought it would make it more interesting to look at and wonder about,'' says Hemming, adding that the stretchy rubber lines also help bind the costume to Bale's body.
