about jamfactory's lefty custom for diy calamari

TOYSREVIL: what is the name of your custom? and what is the toy-story behind your custom? i hope tis a "fresh and juicy one"!

JAMFACTORY: He's called 'Lennon' ~ Lennon the Lefty ... Well he's called Lennon because he's a strawberry, and John Lennon famously grew up and used to play around an orphange in Liverpool called Strawberry Field! ... Not sure where that came from, I wasn't even listening to any Beatles at the time, it just felt like a fitting name! /// CLICK HERE TO READ MORE

TOYSREVIL: what was the genesis of your custom? please do share with us your grocery shopping tips custom-process...

JAMFACTORY: Well my flatmate and fellow lefty-customizer Richt had finished his Lefty in about 20 minutes, as he had a brainwave and turned his into Alan the gay onion cowboy. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do until Rich pointed out that they look quite cool upside down, which he'd noticed when putting his blank lefty into a plantpot upside down so he could paint the feet easily!

On closer inspection, they are the perfect strawberry shape upside down, so that was settled! I then got out a screwdriver and painstakingly drilled the little dimples into his body, which took me ages and gave me sore hands.

[Ed: i'd wanted to make a "don't screw your strawberries if you're not trained"-quip but figured i'd be labled a vinyl-fruit-perv, and ... OOPS! TOO LATE! ]

JAMFACTORY: I went and got some metallic red enamel paint and green enamel paint, then set about the painting process. The paint dried really fast and glossy, which was a happy mistake because I didnt realise enamel would dry so shiney, so I was real pleased about that.

Did several coats of the red and green, whipped out the gold posca pen and painted the little indents so it looked like the strawberry seed bits.

Last but not least, I got my brush on and painted a wee simple face! Then I popped to sainsburys and bought a punnet of Strawberry's for Lennon to live in with his strawberry chums!

TOYSREVIL: this is the one time i can literally say "the custom looks utter delicious" and no one would roll their eyes (LOL) - cheers for your time and trouble Gav - in closing, please do share with us, Who Is JAM FACTORY?

JAMFACTORY: JamFactory is little ol' me ~ It's the artist & company name for myself, Gavin Strange. I'm a freelance web & graphic designer with a passion for dabbling in all things creative. I'm really a digital whore, getting involved in any medium I can, just for the sheer fun of it!

I'm based in beautiful Bristol in the UK, where I'm surrounding by the most talented bunch of cats I've ever met, so that's real inspiring for me, always making me try harder on the next thing I do!

Look out for my own Vinyl toy soon, which Andy's already kindly reported about on this here lovely blog, so I'm super stoked on that! [Ed: drippingly-sweet Droplet Sweeties!]
