blue and gold aiko rabbit vinyls by aiko nakagawa x kidrobot

AIKO RABBIT in BLUE and GOLD:

"Too hip for chocolate, too fresh for Alice; Aiko Rabbit is not satisfied with simply being a stencil brought to life. With his removable spray can, this bunny is ready to return the favor. Designed by Aiko Nakagawa, co-founder of NYC collective FAILE, the iconic vinyl rabbit comes in your choice of blue or gold color ways. Just 750 of each will be produced, retailing for US$39.95" [via] ... scheduled for a March 13th-drop, there is currently no indication of the actual size of the figure.

i reckon, maybe tis in the product depiction, or lack of visible details of the figure from the faint photography, but the Aiko Rabbit frankly, pales radically in comparison with Aiko's own stencil artwork of the bunnies [pics via/via] - which of coz arguably speaking, you could do a little paint-over on your own, when you have the vinyl-rabbit in hand, yeh? (using darker tones to seep into the textured crevices) ... but that's not the point, is it? ... a pity, really, becoz this could've been a pretty interesting figure (ie: 3D-vinylization of 2D-stenciled art), other than looking like a baby's shampoo bottle right now, IMHO. your thoughts?

  4. AIKO has a show opening up March 21st at my gallery, Ad Hoc Art. Visit www.adhocart.org for more details.

Concerning Faile and AIKO...It's true that AIKO was a founding member of the Faile collective. Art historians will document this I am sure. That association, however, is now in the past. AIKO is currently on her own individual journey as an artist. She has a feature article coming out in Juxtapoz in the April 2008 issue, a vinyl figure coming out through Kid Robot, is selling very well to several different art markets around the world and was recently picked to be on a very prestigious panel at the Brooklyn Museum (where I am sure she will also some day exhibit) in association with their upcoming Takashi Murakami exhibition. I am honored to be working with her. I believe the future holds nothing but good things for this remarkably brave and talented young artist.
