Universal To Make Umbrella Academy Movie?
Variety reports that Universal Pictures is planning to make "Umbrella Academy" [wiki] - the first project to come out of its three-year production pact with Dark Horse Comics.
"Mark Bomback, who wrote Disney's "Race to Witch Mountain," has been tapped to pen the adaptation of the book series, created by Gerard Way, the lead singer of band My Chemical Romance.
"Umbrella Academy," which bowed in 2007 and spawned a second series, revolves around a disbanded group of seven superheroes who reunite after the death of their adoptive father, an alien disguised as a famous entrepreneur, and carry out his plan to save the world.
Mike Richardson, founder and prexy of Dark Horse, will produce "Umbrella" alongside Scott Stuber through his U-based Stuber Prods. Pamela Abdy will oversee the project for the shingle and serve as a producer. Way will serve as exec producer."
I will not attempt to wrap my head around the possibilities of an adaptation (not right now anyways ;p) - only that I hope they do "Apocalypse Suite" (the first 6 issue arc) which I heart to effin' bits, instead of the current (2nd series) "Dallas" - which quite frankly - doesn't provide the wonderous awe x kick of A.S., IMHO. Sorry, Gerard & Gabriel! ... That is, unless there are plans for a trilogy, then tis kids, to failed adults, to the final redemption. Yumz.[FYI: Image of 00.05 TOY pilfered from the MCR-blog, with Gerard's bowl of Franken-Berry cereal in the foreground. Why? Because "Mundanity Is Underrated". And no, I've never tasted F.B before evah).
