MW-PRESS: Originally made for Jeff Lamm’s show at the Ultra Pop Gallery in Louisville Kentucky. UP’s presale allotment sold out immediately. So now after much delay the limited edition Kentucky Bluegrass Real Fighting Greasebat figures are in hand and Monster Worship is offering their allotment for sale on Saturday August 28.
I had missed reporting on Greasebat back when it was still in sample form, and of his subsequent release at SDCC (in all-black colorway)> I had asked Greasebat-creator Jeff Lamm a whiles' back about the origin and genesis of Greasebat, and why he is named such!
JEFF LAMM: I started drawing Greasebat about 2008 as a little character for punk gig posters I was making. People liked his crazy face, so I drew him more and more. I've done a series of art prints with him and his enemies, all have sold out quickly.
His name comes from a couple things, mostly it's the combination of two words that don't really go together. When I was in the Army, that was how they made up passwords, a couple words that aren't usually heard together. So I used Grease like hair pomade and Bat, like the Japanese character Rockbat...and viola, Greasebat.
I am so happy monsterworship (producer) and Chauskoskis (sculptor) came along to make my little drawings into a reality. I'm very happy with the outcome so far. As a long time kaiju collector, I can't believe it's happening really.
Jeff currently has two other toys in production via a different producer (they are sort of top secret for now) and are due in late summer 2010. Check out more Greasebat-art from Jeff via Greasebat.com, and check out development info via Greasebat's microsite here.
