Seen @ Manga & Anime! Japan - A Journey From The History To Modern Day Inspirations @ Japan Creative Centre (Oct 16-launch)
The eve of their public opening of the MANGA & ANIME! JAPAN exhibition @ the Japan Creative Centre [event blogged] saw a Media Preview, for folks to sample what is in store for the display, which featured multiple zonal areas filled to the brim with all-things manga and anime-culture from Japan! TOYSREVIL was kindly invited to the preview, and I bring you snaps galore ~ not to deter you from visiting (because if you are in Singapore, you should!) ~ but to share with everyone else who are not in Singapore, during the period of the show. CLICK THRU to view!
“Manga & Anime! Japan - A Journey From The History To Modern Day Inspirations” is jointly organized by Japan Creative Centre, Kyoto International Manga Museum, the Japan Foundation and Animax, and exhibits from October 16th thru to November 12th, 2010 @ Japan Creative Centre, 4 Nassim Road.

The launch saw Mr Tsuyoshi Ogawa (the Art Director of the exhibition) ~ from Kyoto International Manga Museum ~ talking and walking the invited media/press thru the exhibits, starting from the main display space, which saw the gallery walls covered with images of manga-filled book-shelves! Indeed enhancing the mood of the exhibition, IMHO. Lined along the "shelves" were write-ups and explanations of the existence of manga, as well as prominent books. The HISTORY OF MANGA sees 'the evolution of manga from post-WWII period to the present through the works of established authors and major manga titles.' ~ The MANGA GENEALOGY zone/wall (shown below) saw the evolutionary "history" of manga chronologically time-lined along the wall, along with write-ups. Recognize any of your old favourites?

The MANGA LIFE HISTORY zone saw familiar anime (predominantly from Animax channel) and mangas from all a huge variety of genres ~ from action-adventure concepts including Bleach, Full Metal Alchemist to Inuyasha, to music themed anime like K-ON! and Nodame Cantabile. On show were also a select few collectibles and products derived from the anime itself.

The SHOJO MANGA GENGA' (DASH) display zone is one of my fav areas in the entire exhibition, as it showcased original painted artworks of Takashi Makoto, used for manga covers, dating as far back as 1968! Also on display were books which you can flip thru (but not take away ;p).

One "localized" aspect of this exhibition, are the 8 x artwork from local artists from OIC! "INSPIRED" sees "Animax collaborating with the Organization of Illustrators Council of Singapore to create anime-inspired illustrations based on Animax's top shows." ~ At the Media Preview, each participating artist presented their artwork, along with their concept and inspiration for the finished pieces.
Visitors can vote for their favourite illustrations and post their comments on animax-asia.com for the duration of the exhibition. Enter a unique code provided by Japan Creative Centre (which I failed to do on-site! ggrrrr) to stand a chance to win an air ticket to Japan, as well as Kinokuniya bookstore vouchers. Peep the individual illustrations below:

Some addition snaps of the JCC exterior ~ it was my first time there, and it was a lovely space, IMHO. The afternoon / early-evening sun shone delightfully thru the huge windows, and lent a splendid mood to the festivities. Once thing to note, if you are a first-timer to the locale (like lil old me ;p), JCC can be easily accessed via walking from Orchard MRT - to the direction of Delfi Orchard, with a little traffic crossing leading up to slight hill walk-up where the all-white building sits.
