Not having been a real fan of Garbage Pail Kids, these artwork previews are really changing my perceptions (Earlier
previews here) - looking more visceral but someone less "menacing" than the original art on the trading cards, this show seems to be a perfect way to ensnare new converts (*raises hands*) and perhaps please the existing? What do you OG-GPK-collectors think of these new artwork?
EVENT-PRESS: 2 years in the making, join us at Gallery1988 (Melrose) as we celebrate the grossest, and most nostalgic, trading card set ever produced, Garbage Pail Kids. With help from our friends at The Hundreds and Topps, see 100 artists create their own GPK characters, and you will not believe the results! You may even see some as official cards in future sets! The opening reception will run tomorrow night, September 2nd, from 7-10 PM, with many of the artists in attendance. The first 50 people will get a free limited edition shirt from The Hundreds, kicking off their upcoming collaboration with GPK. Take a walk down memory lane, but bring a barf bag, because it's gonna be pretty sick! [Event previously blogged]
