Sengoku Avengers by Alex Mitchell
We've all seen various incarnations of The Avengers in a mind-boogling myriad of interpretations and guises, but this particular one stood out to me, and I for one am interested to see this developed into an actual feature or series, animation or otherwise! And man, do I love mash-ups!
"I was wanting to do a new redesigned/ translated set of comics characters for a while, and the new Avengers movie presented a great team to build from. It has the kind of big iconic characters that work best for these sort of reimaginings. Instead of the theatrical 'chambara' setting I used for my Justice League, I decided that the historically based, yet still legendary figures of the Sengoku era of Japanese history would be the inspiration." ~mentioned the illustrator of the Sengoku Avengers, Alex Mitchell (Read more here)
I reckon these'll make splendid action figures, and by
that I meant from folks like S.H.Figuarts, Revoltech etc!
"Iron Man is reimagined as 'Tetsu-jin'. Tetsuya Suzaku was born into a rich and powerful merchant family (though they had bought their way into a samurai house some years back). The Suzaku family owned mining interests as well as a variety of businesses that utilized the resources those mines produced. Weapons and armor were of particular interest to the brilliant young heir to the family name, and he voraciously studied the latest designs and barbarian technologies." Alex also has another series titled: "Jidaigeki X-Men" - featuring "Marvel's premier mutant superhero team reimagined/translated into samurai period-drama characters." - which you can read+view in detail here!
