GOODBYE2012/HELLO2013: Jackson Aw (of Mighty Jaxx)
TOYSREVIL: Share with us your most triumphant moment in 2012.
JACKSON AW: A personal moment would be when I completed a 3 days seminar earlier this year. It opens me to possibilities, to achieve things that I have never thought possible. It was so powerful at the end of it, some of the participants quit their comfortable desk jobs to pursue their interest. One of my friend who went through it, local prominent designer Casey Chen, made a decision to donate his kidney to his brother. For me, I left Darkroom Army and give my all to start Mighty Jaxx.
A Mighty Jaxx moment will be the Hell Lotus show. We took 2 days to set it up, with the help of RSCLS and their friends. Towards opening time, some frames fell and broke, we have to get replacements within 1 hour. When we finally get everything sorted out and ready to open, it was raining heavily. 30 mins passed and we only have around 10+ people coming in...I was resigned that perhaps what we are doing in Singapore does not appeal to the locals. That turns out to be untrue, eventually the crowd spills outside along the street of Haji Lane. We counted around 300 people, and I do think it was a great success in the area of art we are focused in.
TOYSREVIL: What is your most favorite toy, or piece of art you've seen in 2012?
JACKSON AW: It has to be the blind box Misfortune cats by Ferg/Playge. I am strangely transfixed by it...
TOYSREVIL: What are you most looking forward to in 2013?
JACKSON AW: I am excited to release more art figures in 2013 for sure. As you know, we don't usually release figures from prominent artists in the art toy world, we have enough of that already. Instead, we introduce new blood into the arena and it has been successful as of now. A great example is GOIN, with his Bad Apple figure. A traditionally graffiti artist sold out a run of 300 figures in just a week...who knows where this will leads him? At Mighty Jaxx, we feed on such excitement and it shows in the works we produce.
Lastly, a big thank you to all our collectors who have shown a faith no less than us towards the quality art figures and artists we promoted.
See you in 2013!
