#throwbacktoythursday: Jouwe by Marine Ramdhani
The year was 2009, and Bandung-based My Tummy Toys had just released their JOUWE DIGI WINGS. Not a whole lot of "art toy activity" coming out of Indonesia at that moment in time, and Marine Ramdhani's resin-made 12" tall rhino-character would be one of the few new figures from his company's entry into the designer toy culture!
"The Story begin when Jouwe a Hybrid Rhino, a son of Plum (space rhino) and Bismarck (Real One horn Rhino) run from the jungle (Island) to city, the naughty rhino Jouwe, Plum try to searching him to city, until Trucker The Mecha rhino come to world, at the end Jouwe will meet Trucker and try to fight with him.... so the toys actually it will be grown up together with the story...." [Read more in my interview with Marin circa 2009]
Seen on his left is the Red colorway JOUWE (co-produced by Plastic Culture and Kuso Vinyl) - the vinyl figure whom has since been the custom-base of choice for a myriad of group customs shows! Click HERE to view on my blog :)
And the majestic lady on right is Jouwe's mother; PLUM, also designed by Marine and released in 2012 (at the PLUM X JOUWE Exhibition at Salihara Gallery, in an edition of 10), also under My Tummy Toys, and made of resin. The latest iteration of Jouwe is J-Shark … and with word from Marine, the next incarnation of Jouwe might be as large as a Mega Munny!
Go, Jouwe, GO!
