Local resin-slinger and indie toy designer Daniel Yu (www / IG @thedanielyu / Facebook) shares with us his Top 10 Toys for 2014, featuring a mixture of genres and brands, and presented in no particular order:
(#1) ORON by Kenth Toy Works
WHY: "This guy is a beast, and I like how the paint job is more detailed than most sofubi."
(#2) MAKORI by Shimomoku
WHY: "The expression and posture of this one is both unsettling and hilarious, turned out to be a really unique piece."
(#3) CADAVER TWINS by Splurrt
WHY: "Cute in a morbid kind of way, plus it glows in the dark too."
(#4) Li'l Gotham - Batman
WHY: "Dustin Nguyen's work is awesome and it translated so well into a figure."
(#5) MANTENNA - Masters of the universe classics
(#6) MODULOK - Masters of the universe classics
WHY: "The cartoon came out slightly before my time, but I've always had an affinity with the franchise's outlandish characters and bold colours."
(#7) NECA's Planet of the Apes - Gorilla Soldier
WHY: "Also another property that came out before my time, NECA always does stellar action figures and this is no different."
(#8) Star Wars - Ice Cream Maker Guy
WHY: "Seeing a trend here? Star Wars came out a long time ago in a galaxy far far away. This figure has been out for a few years already, but I just had to get the most mundane and obscure character who had all of 2 seconds worth of screen time in the Empire Strikes Back."
(#9 & #10) Star Wars - Tauntaun and Vader
WHY: "Because 2015."
