#playingwith: EVANGELION Metal Collection (Metacolle) by Takara TOMY
Released by Takara TOMY under their “Metal Collection (Metacolle)” line - which has previously seen character figures from Marvel’s Avengers, Transformers and Star Wars being released - currently only 2 x figures from the EVANGELION line was available: EVA TEST TYPE-01 (Purple and Green), and EVA PROTO TYPE-00 (White and Orange/Yellow).
Priced a few cents short of SG$15.00 per (SRP is 1,000YEN), I purchased these at the Tampines Mall branch of Toys’R’Us, and have no doubt these will be available at toy shops offering mass media toys of it’s ilk - which in Singapore might include select departmental toy store, electronic gaming stores - essentially stores and corners which carry Takara TOMY boxed model cars and figures … although I have not gone checking in other shops LOL
Standing at 3 inches tall, the paint quality is comparable to similar sized figures in the gashapon range or PVC figurines, the detailing and crispness are far from what you might find in model kits, and somewhat look like they had too thick a coat of paint on them, with some slight blemish due to handling wet-paint, but is bolstered by it’s “die cast” status.
Alas, I do not own any other figures in this Takara TOMY line, and cannot say about previous production comparisons though, and they might well be par for course, in terms of “standard” production quality, methinks.
But from whatever “stand alone” view point I have of these two diecast EVAs, then perhaps these pieces are as “mass market” as they sound.
SG$15 is an average affordable expenditure for a EVA figure of this make, with even PVC gachas here in SG hovering around this range, but arguably may well be considered a “luxury” toy-collections can go without, unless you are (like myself) a collector of EVAs, and for that, I’m more than happy to look beyond the quality, and enjoy for having it being “cool” to be had instead! hahaha
Frustratingly and excitedly, through researching for this post, I have since found out there are actually THREE figures in this series, with the third being the red coloured “EVA-02 PRODUCTION MODEL”!!!! Scheduled for a December release (*Earlier two were released circa September 2016) - my EVA Toy-Hunt begins again soon!
Scroll down for more Instagrammed pics, and have a toy-jul day ahead!
Cheers
