Robert Rodriguez Announced to direct UGLY DOLLS Movie!

As CinemaCon rages on in Las Vegas, varied news of upcoming feature films has steadily seeped unto the www, to vary degrees of excitement, but one particular slice of news is pertinent to THIS blog - the announcement of Robert Rodriguez to direct STX Entertainment‘s “UGLY DOLLS” movie!

Last announced in 2015, a release date has since been set for this animated feature, on May 10th, 2019. Comingsoon.net reports that ”There are currently no major films scheduled for that date, although it will be following the untitled Avengers: Infinity War sequel a week before on May 3.” Do we need to worry about "crossover-fans fatigue" here? :p

Check out the poster for the film, revealed at CinemaCon - where we see David Horvath x Sun-Min Kim’s “UGLYDOLL” (with no “S”) characters in animated 3D! with the tagline: "Things are about to get ugly"!

UPDATED: David Horvath has since mentioned; ”Yes those are just the critterbox guys” - So, NO, these apparently were not the “final” characters shown.

If by some slim chance you are unfamiliar with Robert Rodriguez, he has directed numerous genre films including the breakout “El Mariachi” (1992), to 1996’s “From Dusk Till Dawn”, “Once Upon a Time in Mexico” (2003), “Sin City” (2005) and “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For” (2014), not to mention more intense adult features such as “Planet Terror” (2007), “Machete” (2007) and “Machete Kills” (2013), and is currently doing “Alita: Battle Angel”!

But as well he has helmed 4 x “Spy Kids” feature films, and is slated to direct “Jonny Quest“, so it’ll not be all blood-letting and such for our “Ugly”-friends (*crosses fingers and toes), and I personally cannot wait for what happens next!
