2020 marks a significant milestone to us, please stay tuned to upcoming announcements to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Hot Toys!"
In many ways, I wish I could fully celebrate the 2 decades of Hot Toys, having only procured a number of their products in the early years, but stopped short when they announced and released "licensed" products, which propelled their price points above my merger spending levels, into what is known and accepted in this day's toy world expectations and standards.
I had the pleasure and ability to procure their earlier 1/6th: Namely the Matrix Neo, Mission Impossible Ethan, George Lucas. Sure the figures were inlincesed, and head sculpts were "amateurish" - compared to standards these days, but I remembered when South Korean Kojun was announced/revealed to have joined Hot Toys, the expectations jumped a hundred, nay - a thousand-fold, and started tradition of sculptural and artistic excellence up until now, alas none of which belong in my collection.
My ability to "own" any Hot Toys products since, had been loose weapons and perhaps even gear, which were well sort after by fellow collectors, for their intense detailing. and sometimes even "rarity" in the weapon-make, for which I am not an expert to now specifically for, but for fellow collectors raving about them.
My early experiences had been military or enforcement-themed releases with my toy-buddies, which for a "non-military collector" such as myself, had rubbed off thru the years, I admit.
All I have are memories of releases I could not have afford, especially notable movie-themed character figures - a hallmark of Hot Toys releases these years since - and while I am tempted to list my TOP TEN WANTS, perhaps it'll be easier to appreciate and cherish the ones I own instead, flacking faux black leather coats or otherwise.
Instead, I will take a closer look at a Hot Toys-figure I currently have in my toy-hoard - that I can still "reach", I meant to say lol: "HOT DEVIL by Eric So!
And I remembered WHERE the cape went to now! I used it for one of my kit bashes for X-Mas in 2007! And alas, "NO", I don't know where I've put the cape now ... @.@"
