Toy Review: COVID-19 by KAZE Studio
Featured here today is a look at the COVID designer resin toy by Thailand toy-creator Koson Kajeekailas AKA KAZE Studio (kaze.studio eShop)! Here's a look a time-lapse unboxing:
PACKAGING:
The figure and accessory is housed snaggly fit into cut black foam within a cardboard tray with printed sleeve cover. I felt this was very nicely done, no frills and yet aesthetically pleasing, with a nifty "indie"-spirit vibe.
FIGURATION:
There are two parts to this figure: The main 7.5cm / 3" tall hand-painted polystone resin (with zero articulation), and the figure's accessory of a bottle of "SprayGel", which has a magnet built in, which attaches to the figure in a designated spot (as seen in video), and is a pretty strong and sturdy magnet (for it's size) too!
This COVID figure was designed by @kaze_tee, based on the Covid-19/Coronavirus cell (which even my 80 year old mother recognised lol), with the "eyes" and "(closed) mouth" added to really edge what would be the most hated virus in current modern times towards "adorability", anchoring it in (gloss) black, instead of any other color(s).
The color choice for "COVID" and metallic finish gives it a somewhat heightened visual allure, versus if it had been a Matte-finish figure, IMHO. The teal is offset and disarmed by the pink, I have to say.
One aspect which I always appreciate in a toy figure, is that it can stand by itself, and this figure is no exception, with any doubts of a "bigger" body over smaller "feet" a non-issue, as far my figure is concerned.
CHARACTER DESIGN:
I have added a side-by-side comparison image (seen above) of the initial design (left) and the final version (right) in-hand, so you can view the subtle changes for yourselves. I have no further commentary on this as I personally prefer the one in-hand right now...! OMG a "Cute-Covid"...!
AVAILABILITY:
Since my earlier feature (in mid-March) and WIPs follow-up, the hand-painted polystone resin 7.5cm tall figure has since Sold Out of it's pre-order run, while a SECOND run of 50 piece is forthcoming! Pending availability details, so you'll need to stay connected to his Insta @kaze_tee for updates!
