Creating Action Figures with Ai
The oft-spouted adage: "Ai Will Take Away Your Job" is well heard/read, and honestly cannot be denied, although not in all cases, but...
And with the recent adaptation of Studio Ghibli's aesthetics has reignited (some might say it is a on-going sitch), yet another "new" Ai-trend has gripped the www: The "ChatGpt Create A Action Figure"!
"Have you ever dreamed of seeing yourself as a
Barbie-style action figure? AI can now make that
happen. FOX 5's Teresa Priolo takes a look."
And words used veer towards the term "action figure" versus what folks used to straight-up call "toys", giving further catergorization to what we already are used to in the global toy-culture.
*A "TOY" now denotes a character figure (bipedal or otherwise mechanical) with super-deformed aesthetics and body form, likened to smaller figurines found in blind boxes.
*A "ACTION FIGURE" describes a bipedal anatomical figure (with or without articulation) replica of a referenced character.
SureAF beats when norms call everything "toy", doesn't it? LOL
In this context, what we see now is a mixture of both sensibilities, with anatomical body form, and a slightly enlarged head-sculpt, giving it a decidedly non-"100%" realistic face, but a caricature / facsimile of, but bearing the likeness which no doubt is a fun variation of the previous "Bairbie.me" trend (which I tried out :p), but this time the final presentation sees your chosen likeness / subject amidst separate accessories, blister-carded like a action figure item, hanging on toy-shop pegs...!
From hyper-toy-realism to Bob-The-Builder-styled or Disney aesthetics, the selection runs the gamut of celebrities, to the working man, to domestic fun, where everyone gets to experience a slice of "childhood fun with toy(s)" (or so I think).
I would imagine this would be perfect for fan-casting characters and seeing them as "toys"/merchandize IMHO. Would not doubt if even fans would conjure up comparisons to Ai-generated "toy" images versus actual produced toys ...! And the discourse continues LOL
This is interesting when said conceptual imagery could be translated to it being 3D-printed figure, and being blister-carded by enterprising vendors into a literal bespoke collectible. I envision a time where said 3D-printed figure is blister-carded on a board featuring the intense Ai-artwork = where once was online based visuals, now manifest unto 3-dimensional reality in the real world.
This would be a time where folks purchase a fantasied creation, this time being directly connected to the visual, become the protagonist in a fictional play world where anything isn possible, something which is increasingly further from reality, in the world we all live in now. The beauty of collecting toys, hyper-injected with fantasy of yourselves.
Honestly though, as I grab images off the www (predominently off Facebook), I cannot help but feel the similar vibes to when I featured appropriated carded toys from DKE Toys and their offerings for dedicated toy shows ... :p
Cheers,
Andy TOYSREVIL
