LOBO



Now that we've had a fleeting glimpse at the character in the latest Supergirl teaser trailer, let's have a slightly closer look at the character named "LOBO"!



WHO-IS: "Lobo" is a fictional antihero appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. He was first created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, and first appeared in Omega Men #3 (June 1983 / seen above-left). He is an alien from the utopian planet of Czarnia, and works as an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter.

He remained in limbo until his revival as a intergalactic bounty hunter with his own comic in the early 1990s, reimagined by Simon Bisley (above-right) = the incarnation we see now and remembered and recognised mostly for, and made into action figures et al (listed below for sale on Amazon, cheers).

The version we will see in "Supergirl" is played by Jason Momoa (@prideofgypsies), looking like a jacked-up SWOL 5th member of rock band KISS, whom everyone will agree is "perfect" for the role.

Folks certainly like their villains "anti-heroes", and the abject parody is thicker than anyone realizes and perhaps has since morphed beyond caricature into the dolphin-loving mass killer having his own cult-following(ish). Will the same be said for Mamoa's upcoming role? Will people get over his former role as "Aquaman" to embrace him being "Lobo"?

So you might be asking: "Why profile a "side character" over the main?"
Simply because I have a much closer affinityn to Loo than I do Supergirl, having red and colelcted his earlier comics (with Simon Bisley) and being fascinated by such a character's continued existence (not much of a "suprise" but), and I imagine it exploding in popularity when the film comes and folks embrace the characater - leading to MORE films and toys! Or maybe folks'll not care too much and move on...? Can;t wait to see The Main Man on the silver screen though...!
