tis funny (i reckon) - the response i get when i tell folks what it is i've been working on recently, and a unison "har?" echoes thru the hollowed halls of my pride disposition ... by tomorrow (thursday), my production will wrap/end. and it so happens to the day of the television premiere of said production. tis my first chinese (long-form) teevee series. my first "idol drama" = Dream Chasers! (Mung4 Ping1 Tu2)

hey! itz a paying-gig, okay? *heh* ... clocking-in at 1/2 hour per episode (total of 13-episodes), starring the folks from '05's Project Superstar; Kelvin (Kevin), Kelly (Lynn), JunYang (AJ), Sin Huey (Charlotte), Jason (Steven) and Silver (Jo) - familiar names to me by now (*hard working bunch, all*). the series is about a group of "fashion design students" and WeiLian (Kelvin) as the sole "music student" and their lives and loves, thru twists and turns; as only an idol-drama can provide ... *heh*

< which opens up another whole can of media-worms, when ya ask "why get singers to act?" - when you have other idol-contestants (like Star Idol) specifically to feed the actor-fooder cater to this genre? which is all valid, in fact imight even tend to side in said arguement questioning (if there ever be the case) - but in the end, tis hard (or rather not really :p) to fathom thee local media-machine, innit? ... altho it sometimes pains me kind-old-man-heart to see them running to and fro between multiple engagements and commitments and production-shoots, most times with nary a moment of respite ... oh well, such is the price for fame and craft, innit? (both Weilian/Kelvin and Kelly have since released their albums, with Sin Huey's and JunYang's in-production) ... and i can only but do my job the best that i can afford to and bugger-off at wrap-time, innit?
this entry ain't about bitchin' or personal judgments (*self-preservation*), instead i'd just recognize a few truths instead of acknowledging/stating the muffled injustices gleaned and re-learnt from my very-soon-to-end tenure in this production:

[1] i will never try not to work on a project with just myself as the (near) solo-personnel in the Art Department (regardless of how fancy my position might sound) again- in this future or the next. altho kudos to my lone Props-dude, who catered to the production's whims and fancies as only he could, on-set ... me? = im too tired for this type'o shitte fracas.

[2] to have a english-translated script, regardless of whatever language the original script is in. this is my first and only production so far that i have not read the script (my mandarin sucks-rancid-balls, 'nuff said) at all ... and without it, i am unable to be truly involved beyond that which i have been briefed and hence am unable to do what i am best in doing = *the details* - be it designing it or to provide a character beyond surface art direction and set-dressing.
other than the above, everything else is negligible (or so i try to convince myself) - wished i could've done more tho ... anyways, with two months of production at an end, i can only but sigh a weary and tired sigh of relief and hope that the production/teevee series is taken for what it is = an idol drama ... and whatever details will fade into the background, which i reckon this the norm, innit?

i remember making an "unkind" remark during the production (in reference to a cheezy-dialogue sequence) - whereby the Assistant Director on-set retorted that tis becoz of my "age" and the "inability" to "understand" and "accept" the words and intent that were coming out of the talent's mouths and that if we "old fogeys" dun like it, the youngsters would = which i think is pretty darn farnie and hope that it is the case and leave it at that ...

i judge not in this endeavour, and i would recommend anyone/everyone to "enjoy" it for what it is and hopefully have some fun (someway or another) while you're at it (can't just be content wif alla them Taiwan and Korean "idol dramas", innit? *HAH*) - if it ever the series flourishes and succeeds? good for them and bugger for me and i'd have learnt yet another lesson in work-life, innit? LOL :p
