First Look at 4D XXRAY BATMAN from Jason Freeny X Mighty Jaxx X 4D-Master
Revealed at STGCC2016 (Sept 10-11, 2016) was the larger sized version of Jason Freeny’s XXRAY BATMAN, with this 12-incher possessing the breakdown anatomical aspect from 4D Master, who is collaborating with Mighty Jaxx on this series - yes, you read right; “SERIES”! There will be MORE characters to come, but first we have a look at the unpainted prototype for BATMAN!
I had the opportunity to manhandle the display (thanks, Bane!), and it was one of the more awesome collectibles I have had the chance to lay my hands on in this year’s con!
The final piece will be a mixture of PVC and ABS (no doubt for the “clear” parts), with this piece possessing a certain “heft” (compared to the light weightiness of the other anatomical pieces from 4D) and that makes it extremely desirable, in that it marries the aspect of collectibility associated with weight (in my corner of the toy world, anyways), and of the mass nature of licensed character production.
In itself, the Jason Freeny-Designed DC XXRAY figures are in my mind a perfect marriage of “mass” and niche of “art toy aesthetics”, and this larger piece is a natural and very welcomed extension of that, IMHO.
The larger version seems to have a slight difference in body shape - more bulk, and noticeably the lower torso, maybe (?) - giving it an extremely attractive visual, methinks?
Suggested Retail Price (SRP) is SGD$199, with a STGCC pre-order price of SG$179. I have no qualms about the price, having had a chance to lay my hands on it (not that I could afford it in the first place, alas), and am somewhat partial to the unpainted grey, as opposed to the image of the painted version (photo on show). Release is scheduled for 1st quarter of 2017.
Would also be nice if the cape itself was transparent, although it would only be as interesting if we could see batarangs and other bat-weapons “hidden” at the back of the bat-utility belt? LOL
Looking forward to further developments!
