Sofubi In Vietnam with JUNKY STATION

TOYNEWS SUBMISSION: "Junky Station" is a sofubi art toy store and mini-gallery based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and they have shared with us a headsup for their upcoming "Yokai Exhibition with Demoncraft", as well sharing what/who they are, and what their aim in the art toy scene is.

SOFUBI IN VIETNAM: JUNKY STATION LEADING THE WAY
In recent years, sofubi – the art of soft vinyl toys originating from Japan in the 1960s – has been gaining worldwide popularity. More than just collectibles, sofubi represents craftsmanship, folklore, and the unique vision of each artist.

"In Vietnam, the sofubi community is still young but expanding rapidly. At the forefront is Junky Station, one of the first spaces dedicated to bringing sofubi culture closer to local collectors. Beyond being a store, Junky Station has become a cultural hub, connecting international artists with Vietnamese fans and encouraging creativity among emerging local talents.

Through limited editions, events, and fostering dialogue between artists and fans, Junky Station is helping transform sofubi from a niche passion into a recognized part of Vietnam’s contemporary art scene."

YOKAI EXHIBITION WITH DEMONCRAFT:
From October 31 to November 2, Junky Station will collaborate with Demoncraft – a sofubi brand renowned for its reinterpretations of Japanese yokai – to host a special exhibition. The event will create an immersive space where folklore, imagination, and sofubi collide, offering visitors a unique cultural experience.

The exhibition will be held at THE GALLERIA RESIDENCE (DECOX COMPANY) at Hermitage A Lobby, D6 Street, Thu Thiem New Urban Area, Thu Thiem Ward, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City.

Opening is on October 31st, 2025 (4:00 PM – 8:30 PM), exhibiting thru November 1–2, 2025 (1:00 PM – 6:00 PM).

LOOKING AHEAD:
The growth of sofubi in Vietnam reflects a rising demand for independent, handcrafted, and highly personal art forms. With its pioneering role and collaborations with international artists, Junky Station believes sofubi will continue to inspire a new generation of collectors and creators.

The upcoming Yokai Exhibition with Demoncraft will not only be a milestone for Junky Station but also a defining moment for Vietnam’s sofubi community.

I am intrigued at how Vietnam is on the art toy scene, with my sole "connection" to the country being a short stint on a feature film, over 2 decades ago! At one time I had even wanted to move there, get married and settled down! The lifestyle then took a bit to get used to, but eventually it felt like what I had been looking for ... alas, ultimately I never had the chance to return to the country, even for leisure. But I wondered though, if I had continued down the path of my day job and even this toy-blog, how I would have done...?
