Mattel's Ghostbusters Toys @ New York Comic Con 2009

GHOSTBUSTERS-NYCC2009

"If there's somethings strange in the neighbourhood, who ya gonna call?" ~ goes the line in Ray Parker Jr's "Ghostbusters" movie theme song - and seems folks plagued by ectoplasmic-toy-withdrawals are to call Mattel in 2009 - whose new line of "classic" Ghostbusters series made a showcase debut at the recently completed New Yorl Comic Con 2009. Featured were [shown above L-R]: 2-Ups of Slimer, Ray Stantz and Egon Spengler (final versions will be 6 inch tall) by The Four Horsemen, and far-right (which interested me the most and this post's focus) = a 12 inch tall STANTZ - complete with cloth outfit, Proton pack and ghost trap! *Sweet*

GHOST-TRAP

Online reports (unspecified / via OSW) mentions that the 12 inch Ghostbusters action figures will kick off a new line from Mattel dubbed "12" Movie Masters" (which "opens the door for other movie licenses in the 12 inch format") With a tentative price-quote of US$60 - each Ghostbuster character will include light-up proton packs, real cloth uniforms and tons of operating equipment, such as traps that open and close." Expect a Fall-2009 drop.

**Disclaimer / Note**: Subsequent information (cut-n-paste extract) posted below is by "Lavatiki" of GBFans (the "project designer" of the toy series, it seems) as posted on OneSixthWarriors (at time of this post). Two sets of answers/replies have been split-up for both 6" and 12" figures.

GHOSTBUSTERS-6INCH
[2-ups of Slimer, Stantz & Venkman]

6 INCH FIGURES:

"These were sculpted by the team known as 'The Four Horsemen.' They have sculpted these figures 2-up meaning they are twice the size and will be reduced down to 6". When you sculpt that big, you can get a lot of detail in there which looks great when reduced down. These painted models are fresh out of the paint booth. I haven't even seen them in person yet. The accuracy on the equipment detail is not going to be perfect. There are some parts that will not show up at that size or cannot be molded without a lot of additional cost. There is sort of a balancing act that needs to be played in order to keep things affordable. We will be doing Peter and Winston, but we are still working on them, so they are not displayed. The unpainted Egon and Slimer are displayed for size reference."

RE: 6 INCH (Back) PACK: "The Horsemen sculpted the pack straps into the body because it looked better. Therefore, I think it would look strange to have the pack off while the straps were still on the body. The pack will probably need to stay on. The wand position will be corrected as well as the leg hose. Colors on the wires will be corrected also."

GHOSTBUSTER-STANTZ
[12" tall prototype clothed-figure on display]

12 INCH FIGURES:

"These figures were created entirely at Mattel. They are articulated bodies with cloth uniforms and detailed equipment. Again, you hardcore fans will find faults with some of the details, but I tried my best to include as much as I could. The pack has real wires used for the ribbon cable and part of the top section of the pack had to be enlarged slightly to fit the battery that operates the running red LED lights on the cyclotron. The belt holds the MT500(removable), keyper, trap holder, and Sanyo calculator thingy. The ghost trap has a pedal that can be pressed down but it does not activate the trap. The trap features spring loaded doors that pop open when the red light detail on top of the trap is pressed. The cool thing is that the inner trap is removable from the outer trap frame. So if you have a 1:6 scale containment unit in your 1:6 scale firehouse, you can have a place to store all the ghosts you catch."

RE: 12 INCH FIGURE'S UNIFORM: "It's removable so if you want to swap bodies you can do so. I am a 1:6 collector myself, so I want people to be able to customize if they want to. As for the uniform, yes it doesn't have all the working zippers and functional pockets. For this release, I wanted to spend the money on the accessories. As we continue the line, I will focus in on improving the uniforms."
