> comics are good for you = the writers
3o’clock on a rainy lazy Saturday afternoon, barely lucid from an all-nighter tail-end of a 2day-diahorrea-bad-trip, legs wobbly and chocolate starfish turning rancid-red I plonk myself upon my crusty bed and wade thru the stacks of brilliant comics I have been cataloging the past few days and begun yet again another lonely but eventful night of disappearing into my drug: comics. Wonderful Comics.
both past issues and current
From Garth Ennis’ breathless Preacher to Neil Gaiman’s incomparable Sandman (and tho I secretly hate peeps who claim that the only comics they read is Sandman; just to lay claim to comics-reading-with-a-smiggen-of-brains, i smirk and wallow in my own decadence and false secretpride at reading about Morpheus myself, arrogant basturd that i am) to the inyourfaceAWE of Warren Ellis’ Planetary and the planetscalesuperheriocs of The Authority and marvel at the scale of Mark Millar’s the Ultimates and my alltimeformerfav (when t’was Grant Morrison and Howard Porter / Doug Manke anyways) Justice League of America and of coz the magical Fables by Bill Willingham.
Other oldiefavs include Alan Moore’s Top Ten and League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen (get a loada Mr Hyde sodomizing the Invisible Man! Classic-Shitters i tellyas!) and of coz the revolutionary brilliance of The Watchmen. and Grant Morrison’s run on Doom Patrol that gave me the brainfcuk i didn’t need but secretly craved and am eventually grateful for...
Brian Micahel Bendis was serious good shitte until he overdid and overstretched himself in Marvel (but what a great run it was and sometimes still is) and the faded memory of Powers lingers still tho faint ... ah so many writers; so little money to buy them ALL!
Of coz this is just a wee-gist of alla the great writers (i realized that most of the writers named are british. well, thatz what they say now about the current comics scene being invaded by the brits hahaha and i can't be any happier!) IMHO, and letz not forget the artists that they collaborate with. (another entry for another time soon)

I remember starting buying comics becoz of their ART and very nearly never becoz of their writing (of coz i started in primary school lah) and thru the years, the realization that the writing for such has and still do affect me to a great degree. the goosepimples after a great read, the silent awe at a tragedy, the unnerving grief and falseanger at the end of an issue's climax when the realization hits you hard that you’d haveta wait another month to find out what happened next? pure agony i insist! and i'd want for nothing but the escapades into non-reality that comics can and have afforded me and i am secretly grateful for the experience and for the many to come. :)
And hence also my sudden acceptance of trade-paper-backs (TPB) or graphic novels (barring my previous elitist attitude towards single comics issues instead of TPB = more “pure” mah hahahaha) whereas your gratification can be satisfied concurrently *sigh* = sure as heck beat the hunting down of missing individual issues (wif issue numbers noted down in my lil 555-notebook) = quite the thrill actually. heh) and also the joy in that my beloved's starting to enjoy comics as much as i do. What more can ya ask for? :)
(the above was written on the saturday last and wrapped-up on a monday afternoon. was looking for links to add. so there :p)
