TOYSREVIL: cool looking figures, Tony! so what are they all about?
TONY: these "new" NAKANARI figures was a design collabo with artist Bloo Empire / Keeley Carrigan; who is a good friend of mine. the figs was sculpt by b.b.birdy a while ago. i did some pics for the break part of the detail. i love the new design alot they very detail and bold.
TRE: so how did it all start? what happened?
TONY: this project was started back in 2004 actually, when i met Bloo Empire at the local MegaCon! at that time i was a part of b.b.birdy studios ... i had been working for birdy (studios owner and toy designer ) for almost 2 years, involved in creating a large customs show called Funny Club Show (a tour show traveling Orlando, Chicago, L.A. and Taiwan) - it was a fun project to bring lots of young artists in vinyl toy culture ... anyways, i had seen Bloo's art work and really dug it, i felt he was a talented and awesome artist! after the show me and Bloo started to brainstorm some ideas, to have him to design the "Misfits of Nakanari" figures for b.b.birdy then.
TRE: so what's happening with them now? when can we expect the pitter-patter of little vinyl nakanari-feets soon? LOL
TONY: well, currently there are no word for production, i wish some company would be interested in them?! ... for now, i will try to cast them for limited sales at my new website ... i have spoken with local artists and sculptors, Scott Higgins will be helping me with this project! we might first try testing the figs, like adding the articulated joints, try using and making different materials for casting the figs ... i might cast black or white, or maybe exclusive colors for some stores ... the exciting part of it all is using different color/ed resin for casting, as we will try for different color ways!
TRE: it all sounds cool, Tony! do let us know when the figures are up and ready, yeh? good luck for the production, Tony! :)
