Toy-Review: Future Nibbler by The Tarantulas
NIBBLER-STORY: The Future Nibbler series were first posted on TOYSREVIL in July of 2010, just in time for SDCC (back then he had "arms"). Then September, Future Nibbler visited Superfestival 54, and this time his "arms" were gone. Then in October, a series of Future Nibblers were released online for Oct 22nd, with each of the colorway-styles limited to 2 pieces each, for a total of 12 pieces released. I had posted the news online literally before the day I fell to Stroke, so in a weird way, my "fate" was somehow tied to Future Nibbler!
Then, less than a month later, as I was lying in Changi General Hospital recovering from my Stroke, I had received a package from Chris, which revealed itself to be the Red-colored "NATION"-Edition FUTURE NIBBLER! And ironically, the signature eye-ptach of the figure, mirrored my visual condition which needed an eye-patch! Most DEFINITELY a "toy-drama" if ever that existed! LOL
TOY-STORY: The Future Nibbler is a collaboration with Onell Design - designed & sculpted by The Tarantulas, featuring moulding techniques by Morpheus. The figure also features Header illustration by Germany-based Comic Artist Ralph Niese.
The bagged with header-card figure came with a "bump" in the card, which is revealed to be a piece of "bat wings" when the card is opened. The message written inside the card was a swell surprise as well! (Thanks, Chris!). The ziplocked baggie to the figure was a nice touch to keep the figure waterproof. Here are some turnarounds of the figure, in-hand.
THe figure possessed a smooth milky-tinted head, with a rubber eye-patch, while the hard-body featured circular modules from Onell Design, which no doubt is applicable with Gloys-parts (of that, it is gist an assumption as I have zero figures from Onell to play with :p). The matt feeling to the body contrasted with the head, which I thought was an interesting tactile sensation, IMHO.
Truth be told, it took sometime before I realized what the "bat wings" could actually be for, and I then attempted to remove the milky-resin tinted head from the body (simple removal) and tried the bat-wings at the back of the head. And while it did not really fit at all, I had imagined it was a good surprise nevertheless.
The Future Nibbler sized next to the RxH Nibbler. These are seriously awesome toys with uber-decent make, and transcends beyond the "art toy" genre, delving within the realms of "action figures" and the idea of "play", within a contextual vibe off Dalek's from Dr Who, and a passing snipe at Japanese toys.
Initially priced at £30 each (plus shipping), all has since sold out at Fishtank Castle. I would seriously advice you folks to snag one if you have the chance next release.
