Toy-Review: Skateboard YOKA by ANTZ x adFunture

SKATEBOARD-YOKA-05

TOY-STORY: The SKATEBOARD YOKA is designed by Singaporean-artist Anthony Chong aka ANTZ based on the platform figure of the YOKA Bear, with the entire set produced by adFunture. Limited to 300 pieces worldwide, the set first made it's public debut at 2010's New York Comic Con. Price is US$27.99 per. The 2.5 inch tall YOKA sits on a 4.5 inch tall x 8 inches long Skateboard. This figure sets sees ANTZ with a second toy produced and released by adFunture.

A gift from Rob Losito @Smack6102 during NYCC 2010, this ANTZ-designed YOKA comes housed in a brown carton box printed in simple black logo and text, which flips open to reveal it's contents sealed-wrapped in plastic. A couple of sticker were found inside of the box, which no doubt were NOT from the maker! Thanks Lou and Erick!

Featuring the design-stylings of local artist ANTZ, this figure is in a standalone set, which features a skateboard as it's key accessory - although this is one "accessory", the YOKA Bear can sit it! What works in this aspect, is the limit in the color spectrum being utilized, with the stylish combination of black, white, red and gold accents powering this figure. As well ANTZ's "Wu Kong" is manifested unto the bear's face! Let's take a look first at the Yoka itself first:

Delicate design elements and Mandarin/Chinese text is immaculately reproduced here on the figure with the production value pretty darn swish, although the white lines framing the figure's clothes might be a tad milky and unevenly colored in some minor parts, overall production value is pretty decent for a mass produced figure this sized. Now we turn our collective attention to the Skateboard with a single shoe "accessory":

Truth be told, I've always wondered about this piece. And as well the validity of having a large-size skateboard+shoe the figure could sit in. But perhaps a story was unnecessary for this piece (as future figures to come would seem to be), and instead have the skateboard production be an indication of adFunture's ability to produce and print plastic produces, in this instance, as exceptional detail is seen to be achieved in the design manifestation, with exception is the design replicated below the skateboard deck.

One only ever complaint, was that the "wheels" did not move. But hell, that'll be a whole other toy we will be looking at. Let not practicality come in the way of an art toy being produced!
