TOYSREVIL's Top Ten Media Toys You Have To Have At SDCC 2011

TOYSREVIL-SDCC-MEDIA

And by "Media", I meant toys and products based on media-licenses - ala comic-book, cartoon and/or movie characters. In essence - folks like us whom dwell most of our time in the underground "art toy world" - what we deem "mass market toys". But regardless of genre, there's always the Joy Of Toys to be had, and shared! Check out my humble lists of WANTS toys you Have-To-Have from the coming San Diego Comic Con (www)! *Read-ON*

mighty-mini-muggs-avengers-sdcc

Media-Toys You Have To Have #1: Marvel Avengers Mighty Muggs

WHY: The "giant" Giant Man alongside the Mini-Mighty Muggs of The Avengers are so impossibly adorable I have this desire to own them, and play with them (and yes, by that I meant literally de-boxing them and have epic tpy-fights with them). And based on the "classic" members too - so this is quite a "win" for me. [MORE]. Price is US$34.99 from the HasbroToyShop.com booth #3329.

FUNKO-MrIncrediblePOP-ComicCon-Glam

Media-Toys You Have To Have #2: Retro Suit Mr Incredible from Funko

WHY: Tis a hard-fight which POP-Vinyl I'd love to own, with the three figures from Pixar movies being my top favs - but in the end, I pick Mr Incredible in his blue Retro Suit (we saw it in the display case in his den, in "The Incredibles") because he is basically cool - and as well I couldn't really break up Sulley and Mike now, can't I? [MORE]. And one day I will own ALL POP! Vinyls! muahahahahahaha!

SCOTT_PILGRIM_MEZCO-SDCC

Media-Toys You Have To Have #3: Scott Pilgrim from Mezco

WHY: And while I enjoyed the movie, I am not too familiar with the comicbook, but you know what? This figure from Mezco looks amazing like the comic-character, and as well sports a fabric jacket, and I do heart figures with fabric jackets - especially fluffy-furry hoodie-rims lol [MORE].

Limited to 492-pcs and priced at US$20. The figure since has shown sold out on Mezco.com. Blister-carded packaging image from Idlehands (who has more snaps of the figure in-hand).

CAROL-FENRIS-SDCC

Media-Toys You Have To Have #4: Carol Fenris Barbie from Mattel

WHY: I cannot lie. I somewhat fell for Blake Lively in The Green Lantern movie (when before I was hardly moved from seeing the stills, truth be told), and this might be a chance to score a Barbie without being stared at at the Pink Aisles lol - and hey, tis a Barbie in grubby pilot-overalls, along with a pilot helmet (which features the Sapphire logo and Star Sapphire icon) so that's cool in any fashion-style! [MORE]. Available from Mattel, price is US$35 per - no quantities determined.

COBRA-NINJA-VIPER-SDCC-03

Media-Toys You Have To Have #5: Cobra Ninja Viper from Sideshow Collectibles

WHY: I heart ninjas. And I heart 12" articulated figures, especially if they are of awesome ninjas. And this G.I.Joe Viper looks extremely cool, if the online images are anything to go by.

GREEN_LANTERN_BEARBRICK_SDCC

Media-Toys You Have To Have #6: Green Lantern BE@RBRICK from Medicom Toy

WHY: The retro-Super-Powers blister-card really helps fuel the desire to own this slice of media-toy [MORE]. As a convention exclusive it is priced at US$16.99 and is limited to 1,500 pieces. And while it might make it's way to the East somewhen, it just does not feel the same as buying it from SDCC itself, IMHO (I was gutted when I missed 2010's TRON BE@RBRICK too). Look for it at the Diamond Comic Distributors Booth #2401!

BATMAN-BEGINS-HT-06

Media-Toys You Have To Have #7: Batman Begins from Hot Toys

WHY: Seeing this online made my eyes pop, and toyheart desire for this slice of the Dark Knight in 1/6th-scale, as seen in the Christopher Nolan-directed "Batman Begins". Price is currently unknown (and price does indeed differ from overseas and local in the East). As much as this version will travel different toy fair through the year, I would dearly LOVE to have this NOW! Look for the Sideshow Collectibles' display at SDCC.

MUMM_RA_SDCC_01
MUMM_RA_SDCC_02 MUMM_RA_SDCC_03

Media-Toys You Have To Have #8: Thundercats Mumm-Ra The Ever Living Deluxe PVC Figure from Action Figure Xpress

WHY: And while the Thundercats are all good and whatnot, they would not be as cool without an even cooler nemesis - and nothing could be as awesome as MUMM-RA! Action Figure Xpress will be making the 9 inch tall PVC figure at SDCC Booth #3345 for US$40 per. The figure also measures 11 inches wide including cape, packaged in a special gatefold window box including a special display insert featuring Mumm-Ra's Tomb Fortress! AND as an added bonus - available ONLY as an exclusive gift with purchase at SDCC = Mumm-Ra's loyal pet, Ma-Mutt!

POPBOT-SDCC-01

Media-Toys You Have To Have #9: WWRp Popbopt from 3A Toys

WHY: And while I would love to snag ALL the ThreeA Toys-offerings meant for SDCC, the sole desire picked has to be the WWRp 1/12th-scaled POPBOT figure. With a feature film waiting in the wings (of which a promo DVD might be available at the Con), this looks to be an exceptional figure to be had. And if you missed the 1/6th-scaled version when it was released previously, THIS is not what you want to miss! [MORE]

STARWARS_FIGURES_SDCC-01
STARWARS_FIGURES_SDCC-02 STARWARS_FIGURES_SDCC-03

Media-Toys You Have To Have #10: Star Wars Vintage Collection in Death Star Package from Hasbro

WHY: My connection with Star Wars toys is heart-breaking (if only affected by me alone), with only two surviving figures (ROTJ Luke and a Leia) out of a massive series of Star Wars goodness since my youthful childhood (which me Mum insists she had never thrown them away), I had since not endeavored to buy back all that I had "lost" all these decades - because frankly, there's hella lot of figures to recollect, innit?

Then this set was debut at the recent New York Toy Fair, as a precursor to an exclusive for SDCC: a 14-figure set in Death Star themed collector’s packaging.

What is also unique about this set, was that the blister card shows "Revenge Of The Jedi", in lieu of the familiar "Return of The Jedi" fans have witness in cinema-screens and various take-home media all these years. Toy Anxiety explains why:
"For those not familiar with the story, Return of the Jedi was originally slated to be titled Revenge of the Jedi. Late in production, George Lucas decided to make the change to a more lighthearted name given the family friendly nature of the film, but initial runs of merchandise were already printed with the Revenge name. This pieces have always been a favorite of collectors, so the alternate card backings are a tip of the hat to these fans."
As well as an added bonus - there will be two mini-figures available exclusively only in this boxed set: Salacious Crumb, and the Mouse Droid (shown in Death Star scenes). Price? I shudder to know ;p
