A STEAMPUNK PERSPECTIVE #1: Customizing Steampunk
Just what is "Steampunk"? Beyond monocles, steam-pipes and gears, Steampunk is a designed lifestyle. Steampunk subverts modernity. Steampunk embraces Victorian aesthetics. Steampunk is pristine and shiny. Steampunk is gothic in the light. Steampunk is fiction, and now Steampunk has become a way of life, for many who have chosen to trod it's path.
"A STEAMPUNK PERSPECTIVE" takes a look at what represents "steampunk" - via a trio of "Perspectives" - starting with "Customizing Steampunk". Art Toys. Action Figures. 1/6th-scaled hobby. The doors are open for genres of toys mentioned, to be customized into the steampunk-aesthetic.
Two winners will be chosen at contest's end. A Judges' Pick will see one submission awarded with a Dapper Edition - Humphrey Mooncalf and an original drawing from Doktor A, while a Public Vote will see another submission walking away with another Dapper (both Mooncalfs kindly sponsored by Pobber). Read the submission requirements stated below, and we look forward to seeing your submission/s.
Contestants are to submit their interpretation of the theme "Steampunk" via images of their "customized toy". "TOYS" in this context include designer / art toys, action figures (of any scale) and 1/6th-scale articulated figures. This is predominately a contest based on the alteration of an existing (articulated) figure, based on your own concept and design, for the contest. As such, do provide an addition image or description of the original toy pre-customized - for visual reference. Failure to do so will render the submission void, if necessary.
We are looking for the custom showcasing the most attractive and relevance to the theme "Steampunk".
The "A Steampunk Perspective #1: Customizing Steampunk" blog-contest will see two components to the contest. The first is a JUDGES' CHOICE and the subsequent one is via PUBLIC VOTE.
In JUDGES' CHOICE - a panel of Judges will decide and choose who/what the sole winning entry would be. The judges for this cycle are: Esteemed Customizer and Winner for "Best Customizer" at the 2011 Designer Toy Awards: Doktor A! Joining him is Jake of @PobberToys! TOYSREVIL (aka "me") will round out the Judge's Panel.
The sole winner of the JUDGE'S PICK will walk away with a Dapper Edition Humphrey Mooncalf - sponsored kindly by Pobber - and an original drawing from Doktor A!
In PUBLIC VOTE - the judges for the sole winner is to be determined by "YOU", the readers! Submissions (sans the winning Judge's Pick) will be put up on my Facebook for a round of voting by the general public - with the submission tallying the highest number of votes, be declared the Winner!
The sole winner of the PUBLIC VOTE will score himself/herself a Dapper Edition Humphrey Mooncalf - as well sponsored generously from Pobber!

Submissions are strictly to be builds made specifically for this contest and/or items made that [A] Have not been posted and/or published online or in print anywhere else prior to this contest start, [B] Been exhibited in any way or form before, in public. Once the submission is found out to have deliberately flouted these terms, it will be rendered void and not be accepted as a part of this contest.
The number of images to be submitted are no lesser than 4 x images, and no more than 6 x images. Montages and collages will only mean one single submission for this contest (of course you are free to post as many images as you want in your own hosted online venue, or even your own video demos - give us a link to it too).
Why 4 to 6? Because [A] I might select some entries for posting on the blog to promote the submission and contest (BUT it does not mean submission will guarantee a posting, and do not ask me about it), and [B] I will eventually montage them and host them on my FB for contest voting.
- This is an all-ages contest (so no naughty-bits or tomfoolery) and is open to anyone on the face of the Earth, to participate (Professional, or Amateur). Basic English is needed as this contest is and will be run in the English language.
- All submitted images are to be watermark free with little to not photo-manipulation (beyond brightening and sharpening pics). No exceptions.
- Submissions to be in portrait or landscape format. No restrictions on formats but please DO NOT send me print-publishable sizes, thanks! Mininum size to be 500 x pixels across, thanks.
- There will be NO LIMIT to the amount of submissions you choose to enter into the contest!
- Email all image submissions to toysreviler [at] gmail.com - and nowhere else.
(Do include in the subject line: "A STEAM PUNK PERSPECTIVE SUBMISSION" - I would have another contest going on around the same time, so this would help me greatly - Thank You)
Included in the image entry are this distinct requirements:
(A) Name/Nick of Customizer
(B) Website URL of Customizer (if you do not include it, I will not publish it, regardless of who you might be)
(C) Name of Custom
(D) Name of Original Toy (to match image you provide)
(E) Story of Toy (Optional, so no stress ;p)
NOT STEAMPUNK TOYS: We are looking for Steampunk-themed toy figurine customs, NOT steampuned-themed props or display items. For that, and for customs previously completed before this contest and seen by the general public, I have set up a "STEAMPUNK COLLECTED" album on Facebook to host such image-references. Attach your Name/Nick + your personal Website-URL and I might post it up on the album (if it is relevant) BUT it will not be a part of the contest.
