GOODBYE2012/HELLO2013: Mike 'NEMO" Mendez
TOYSREVIL: Share with us your most triumphant moment in 2012.
MIKE MENDEZ: This year has been total awesomeness with many kool art, projects, commissions,and collabs - but i think the greatest achievement is the start of Badapplezinc with my bud Osiris orion and actually getting a chance to have a table at this years NY Comic Con! Thanks to Benny Kline of Tenacious Toys. Osiris and I both been kickin around the idea to start a small model Garage kit slash resin toy and collectible company. Myself being a sculptor and having X amount of years and experience doing work for other companies and Rob (Osiris) with his Painting and Moldmaking skills we said "let's just do it!"
Since (then) we put out a few resin pieces, SpaceJunk Destroyer and the dustmite, got to collab with Bob Conge (PLaseebo), JC Rivera and Valley Dweller. And as well did a awesome Online custom show with a bunch great friends and artists!
TOYSREVIL: What is your most favorite toy, or piece of art you've seen in 2012?
MIKE MENDEZ: Fav piece of art?hmmmm maaan dude there's sooo many, especially having internet these days and seeing so much inspirational art online? It can be Overwhelming! I am NOT a big collector but if i had to pick I'd say that dude that does those creepy skull sculpts in the resin pieces Scott Wilkowski did = Totally SICK! … his work is like Jason Freeny's but ON CRACK!! LOL
TOYSREVIL: What are you most looking forward to in 2013?
MIKE MENDEZ: In 2013 I'm looking foward to working on some 1:6th scale sculptures! I haven't done these for awhile and am so itching to get back to this figurative sculpting style. Some people in the Vinyl toy industry may not know that that's how I got started sculpting, doing these commissioned 1:6th scale Movie, comic book sculpts, they just see me as a Customizer. So when I was asked to do a few commissions i jumped at the opportunity. Watchout for Lots of new pieces for Bad Apples in 2013! ALSO the new year will bring The ROLLIESHOW 2!! Brought to you by Tenacious Toys and Myself!!! Benny and I thought it was time to gather up a few good men and see what Ruckus we can stirr up! The most interesting part of this is where the event will be HELD!! Can't say exactly yet coz we are ironing things out and pinning down a date.
