How has your toylife been in 2024?

My personal toylife in 2024 was a mixed bag of "fleeting victories" and "lingering fails". I had been able to procure toys (but never "guilt-free") thanks to paid freelance gigs, although I'd missed out on a number of "wants" because I was scatterbrained and focused too much on "covering even(s)", and missed my marks.

I've realized thru the years of collecting, what haunts me are the thoughts of "what I did not score", versus "what I had actually scored", which frankly is not a way to live a toylife, being continuously greedy and feeling unfulfilled. So to combat that: "Buy Less Toys in 2025", even as I attempt to hold more "pop-ups" to sell some of my hoard = NOT with the aim to buy new toys, but to fkn "survive", innit? LOL

And with that, I too was interested (and always had been) in what other folks felt about "2024". I am not plugged into the collectors' scene and frankly have not been feeling much of being a "toy-collector" myself for years now, compared to the early days of this blog too...

In many ways, "toy-collecting" has become too much of a "solitary activity" for me (*And not something felt recently too, long time coming) even as I avoid online buying, or purchasing toys by my lonesome at events, the feeling has somewhat "empty", but for the number of "Likes" I receive when I post images of my toy scored on socials.

I'd asked on Instagram: "How has your toylife been in 2024? Has anything changed compared to previous years’?", and these were what folks generously shared:

"Yea, premium 1:64 diecast happened..." (Shared @dachswerk), "...you can check @minitehnike for the ones that I photographed so far."

And while I appreciate all kinds of toys and collectibles in different genres, there is always a constant: "SPACE", of lack thereof, which I can sooooo relate...!

"Filled some holes in the collection and added several larger new pieces... Might have officially run out of space, though." (shared @dannyduoshade).

"Each year I have less room for displaying and storing. One of these years it will reach the limit, but not this year!" (shared @_krakit).

Suggested path to toy-enlightenement: "Quality" over Quantity"!

"Less acquiring, but higher dollar pieces." (Shared toy-maker @spandextoys), an example of which was "a white @sanktoys the shape minifig white pearl edition."

"I don't buy as much stuff as I used to. I gotta be more selective. Pick and choose stuff I actually want instead of collecting something just for the sake of it." (Shared @clifftron1986 / Read his Top Toy of 2024)

Considered me "sullied", as I continue down the path of wonton-buying of what I "like" versus what I "need", because, when do we ever "need toys" in our lives? LOL

I remembered my old 1/6th-collectors telling me to "Be Focused. Be Specific!", because my collecting habits were "all over the place" (at least it was to them :p)... but what we need, is a "(detailed) game-plan", methinks!

"Yes. focused collecting and focused on premium TMNT items verses being a completest"." (Shared @fuzzycollector).

"Slowed down collecting to almost a standstill. I don't plan on buying any new releases. But if I do spend money on toys, it'll just be to fill in some hopes from older stuff I missed. Like some early Dunnys." (Shared @crasharoostudios), "One day I'll get back to new stuff for sure, but for now, yep, some holes to fill. El Loco Orange 8 inch is one. Need a 20 inch grey Gary Ham Autumn Stag, too. Also, a bunch of Horvath Kaiju, because that stuff is amazing. And yeah, no moolah right now, but eventually, I hope!"

"I was able to get a Dark Chocolate Kill Kat by Andrew Bell. Now I’m only missing the Strawberry Kill Kat to complete the set!" (Shared @mister_lonzon)

I've always wondered tho; "Do toy-makers collect toys themselves"? The answer might be surprising ... but not these makers!

"Discovering a lot of uncommon toymaking technique by accident..." (Shared toy-maker @ikin_619)

"Yes started to pull vinyl at home ....still a lot to figure out but eurofubi here we come!"

"Only preparations to get back into the game. Some sweet additions to collection as well..."

At the end of the toy-day, one of my fav responses is in this hash-tag:

"I've slowed down. #dontletyourhobbiesbecomeanobssession". (Shared @omgitsjblopez)

...which I'd wanted to add: Too late for me, buddy!" MUAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA

Alas I've since disabled COMMENTS for this blog (too much spam, for years now), and I am having troubles with my Facebook, so the only tangible online convo I can have with anyone is via Instagram, for which I am grateful still for, otherwise I would essentially to blogging to myself, innit?

Happy Toy Hunting in 2025, everyone!
