Is Superplastic "Back"?
Is Super Plastic "back"?
Well, at least their webshop is...!
Since exploding unto the toy scene in March 2018 and calling a hiatus with the closing down of the webshop circa April(ish) 2025 (due to 'tariffs'), seems with recent eNewsletter alerts, new toys have been released and quickly "Sold Out" - including the 8" SUPERGUGGIS and 3" ORANGE JANKY CARROTS (LE 400pcs + 100pcs respectively) collaboration with Anwar Carrots.
Recently released vinyl and plush figures:
superplastic.co states: "Created by artist Paul Budnitz and currently owned by Really Super Co. PBC"...
(The following was received ", Dec 9, 2025" via eNewsletter):
"Dear SuperFam,
We’re excited to announce that Janky and Guggimon, along with a group of former Superplastic alumni, have bought Superplastic from the company’s last owners — in exchange $98 in cash, Guggimon’s matte black 1963 Ferrari Daytona, and Janky’s collection of signed post-concert Taylor Swift underwear.
First things first: in the process of cleaning up, we found three dozen palettes of dead stock, rare and never-seen Superplastic toys. We need the cash to make new toys, so we’re going to begin clearing those out to fans for nearly nothing over the next few months. As part of the SuperFam (we think), you are first to know 🤐 and get early dibs. Starting tomorrow, we’re dropping unreleased . Bookmark this page. Slam some eggnog pudding shots. Then check the website xxxxxxx.
In the meantime we’re working on new toys, long-form cartoons, a bunch of celebrity collaborations, and 40 gallon drums of Janky Lube® for your next late-night encounter, available soon on Amazon.
Much love"
Moving forward - Will SP pivot away from NFTs? Will the unfortunate situation with Sket-One ever to be meaningfully resolved? It would be nice to see more art toy designers will be able to collaborate with them for new collectible releases, in addition to the no doubt "brands"-collaborations and/or just their fictional Janky and Guggimon mascots/representatives getting the sole spotlight, which honestly is no different than a rare smattering of artist-designed skins for Kidrobot Dunnys these days, innit?
Yes, of course there is the "business" justification of what needs/needed to be done, for which I do not need to deny.
Since my personal purchase from them when they started (Appreciated the GID RO-MU-LO SuperJanky tho - Bless you Paul & Huck), all I've since received in return thus far is their eNewsletter, and of course good for "toynews-blog-fodder", so it remains to be seen of my "toy-wish(es)" would come true, or would SP continue to be a "hype-beast" brand "dabbling in art toy culture"?
