MOLLY's 20th

One of my earliest feature on TOYSREVIL about Hong Kong-based creator Kenny Wong's "MOLLY" was when both of them descended unto Singapore in 2007, as part of "Molly Travel Around The World" exhibition, where I actually got to meet the man in person (whom I interviewed online a year later :p)!



All these were pre-Pop Mart days (for purposes of this blogpost), knowing him from brothersfree era and Copperhead/Project-18! And of course, "Molly", whom had evolved thru IXTEE, Play Imaginative, Toy2R, Medicom Toy, Hot Toys, Unbox Industries, INSTINCTOY, and of course thru Kennyswork themselves.



One of my earliest Molly purchase was a "Wonder Woman" (which for the toylife of me cannot find any pictures I'd taken of, or even find in my hoard of toys aaarrrrrr), and as well I have a boxed MOLLY BEE (including a pot of honey) for sale at the TOYSREVIL Pop-Up Store (released at Taipei Toy Festival 2009).



That said, I have my fair share of Pop Mart Mollys thru different series (in the early days), picking up a blind box here and there, including my favourites "Journey Thru The East" (for which I wished I could afford to get the entire line-up lol), and relinquishing some too, including this;



One of the most interesting takeaway from the Pop Mart produced mini featurette (see up top) was that Molly is NOT POUTING (as I've always assumed her to do), but is instead biting her lower lip! :)

The video in question coincides with the MOLLY 20th Anniversary Outreach Project, titled "Finding The Little Galaxy", "comprehensively showcases MOLLY's growth since its inception. For the first time, it presents a complete collection of the artist's development of MOLLY, including character sketches, creative drafts, original artworks, classic figurines and the stories behind the creation. MOLLY is returning to Hong Kong, the little galaxy where her story began, to illuminate the way forward. Join us in sharing this wonderful 20-year journey with MOLLY."
