"How a single sketch turned into a dream project" by Sergey Safonov

What if there's another one near Moscow—a celestial one, built by birds?
Sergey Safonov shares with folks the story of the "Moscow Birds" project: how a 2016 sketch turned into a ten-year journey—from the first sketches to a gallery installation! (Remember to turn on the Auto Translation to English)

"I talk about the search for a material that serves the idea. Why wood became an image of memory, and glass—light and water. About years of study, doubt, and meditative work. A story for those who love stories about creative paths or are working on their own projects.". (@sergeysafonov)

TOYSREVIL: Do you plan to do more videos? And what's your plan (as a creator) moving forward in 2026?

SERGEY SAFONOV: Yes, I plan to keep on creating this small video essays for both, my own projects and inspiration behind them and general toy topics plus short reviews of pieces from my collection. I posted some already on my YouTube channel.

Plans for 2026 is quite simple - last year my character Gooma celebrated his 20th birthday, I want to reissue the figurines and my daily character project @tinyblackflag just turned 1000 issues and I want to make toys out of those.

Sergey was instrumental in introducing me to the existence of independant art toy-scene in Russia (Group Shows at STIKOVKA, 2010's LUNOHOD-1 Expo), and I truly look forward to seeing more from him and his POV on his channel....!
