the swinging seesaw's glo-kock figure

my jaw hit the floor when i first saw The Swinging SeeSaw's Glo-Kock figure on the KR forums - even more so when t'was mentioned that he was carved from hardwoods, adorned with brass detailing...

the sleekness of the completed paintwork belies it's true original material, whilst the attention to quirky details give life to the lil tyke, IMHO ... i had an opportunity to have a chat with Alexis West, creator of Glo-Kock - *read what he has to say, after the JUMP*

TOYSREVIL: i haveta say, tis gorgeous work you have there, Lex - how big is the figure exactly?

ALEXIS WEST: The figure is about 6 inches tall and around 2 inches wide.. He is happily crafted from Boxwood and Pear wood, with brass detailing for the eye, gears, and little spray cans...

TRE: top-knotch work on such a small scale, IMHO! a question that most fans (or fans-to-be) would wanna know is, will the figure be "mass produced" or is it just a "one-off" at this point in time? and if being massed produced, how soon can folks get their grubby hands on him?

LEX: Glo-Kock, is the first of a mini series of "one off" wooden pieces of various characters from The Swinging Seesaw, that are planned and pretty much underway ..... I do have a vision of mass producing a run of them If people like the characters.

LEX: as for "availability" ... hmmmm ... that is more of a loose "watch this space"

TRE: and a grand-vision it is, Lex! when you mentioned "wooden sculpt", it took me some time to pull my jaw back from the ground LOL ... how long did it take for you to complete this figure? from design, to sculpt, to final treatment?

LEX: The illustrations of this character had been concieved quite some time before I decided to realise it a 3d form.. After deciding to produce him from wood it seemed to take a while to complete, as I could only afford one day a week over seven weeks, so in real terms, I guess he took a little over a week... I enlisted the help of seasoned craftsman, (Chris West) to ensure all went to plan... In fact the most time consuming part was the paint job.... It went wrong several times.... :-)

TRE: why the name, "Glo-Kock"?

LEX: The name "Glo-Kock"... hmmmm I can't even remember exactly how I came up with that.... I have always had a terrible habit of evolving nicknames usually through shortening and word association... Originally he started out as "Cognitive" somewhere along the line that turned into "Glokenspiel" (through a string of evolution)... And ended up as Glo-Kock...

TOYSREVIL: cheers for the time and trouble for this chat, Lex and my best wishes to yourself and Swinging Seesaw, and looking forward to more awesome work!
