on one hand, the concept / mystique of having a super-powered person being/behaving very "human" (complete with regular mortal aggro + emo issues) makes them down-to-earth and hence relatable to Joe-blo, ie: "US", is alluring, no doubt (ie: HEROES et al) ... but on the same token, i personally wanna see super-powered beings LET RIP! and i don't mean them pantsy can'o'whuppa$$ in Hollywood flicks, i aim to see an entire supermarket-shelf fulla cans of all kinds'a whupa$$ let loose on this mortal coil! ... now HANCOCK doesn't seem to fall in the latter category, altho i'd imagine Will Smith will be making his darnest effort for some chuckles (after his dramatic turn in I Am Legend, im not sure if he could still squeeze sniggers out of us, IMHO, of coz :p) ... altho the X-Men-ripped-hero-suit does give me a giggle-pause, altho, i still do lurve me my superhero-flicks lah! LOL ... and the only other reason to watch this flick, is for Charlize Theron...
SYNOPSIS (LONG VERSION): With great power comes great responsibility – everyone knows that – everyone, that is, but Hancock. Edgy, conflicted, sarcastic, and misunderstood, Hancock's well-intentioned heroics might get the job done and save countless lives, but always seem to leave jaw-dropping damage in their wake. The public has finally had enough – as grateful as they are to have their local hero, the good citizens of Los Angeles are wondering what they ever did to deserve this guy. Hancock isn't the kind of man who cares what other people think – until the day that he saves the life of PR executive Ray Embrey (Bateman), and the sardonic superhero begins to realize that he may have a vulnerable side after all. Facing that will be Hancock's greatest challenge yet – and a task that may prove impossible as Ray's wife, Mary (Theron), insists that he's a lost cause. [via SHH] - Directed by Peter Berg, HANCOCK opens July 2nd in the U.S.
