suiko & tenga mickeys by mindstyle: for disney's bloc28 series 2
PRESS RELEASE: There's a mouse about town! Disney’s Bloc28 project brings together respected and leading urban artists to reimagine and reinterpret the iconic Mickey Mouse. The new Series 2 will feature brand-new original Bloc28 Mickey figures from Japanese Bloc28 artists Suiko and Tenga, produced by MINDstyle who continue to deliever some of the hottest art toy collectibles on the market."
SERIES 2 will feature the art of Chaz Bojorquez, Rime (MSK/Seventh Letter), Ewok (MSK/The Seventh Letter), Aroe (MSK/The Seventh Letter), Suiko (Japan) and Tenga (Japan). Japanese-artist SUIKO contorts Mickey within an inch of his pop-culture status, seemingly frozen whilst twitching violently starring up into the skies - a malady brought about being within the confines of an urban jungle (?). The head-form provides an interesting distraction, but the wiggly limbs are less endearing.
TENGA's Mickey projects an image of playfulness, and embodies the spirit of "designer-vinyls" in it's non-linear interpretation of the famous mouse. The Zen-"Meditation-Fingers" provided a well-needed chuckle for me too! Personally I reckon this be more accessible of the two figures previewed here, and quite a delight to look at, IMHO :)
