hot toys to do classic planet of the apes in 1/6
Get ready for "APE SHALL NOT KILL APE" = Hot Toys-style! - With the announcement of the addition of the movie license for the classic PLANET OF THE APES into their Movie Masterpiece 1/6th-scale series [www]. But who will make the 1/6-cut? Apes? Humans? Vehicles? And with all that potential simian-couture, my next question would be: Moulded or Rooted?
Since the release of the first movie in 1968 [wiki], the concept and story has gripped imaginations thru four decades, and has spawned a wide variety of toys in as many different genres and scales. MEGO Central has an excellent archive of Mego and Palitoy articulated vintage (carded) figures. While in more recent memory, 1/6th-scale offerings from Hasbro's 12" Signature Series and Sideshow Collectibles.
And will there be POTA-Chubby series to come from Hot Toys as well? As per Medicom Toys' POTA-KUBRICKS series? ... time will tell, meanwhile CLICK THRU for some POTA 1/6-action and a lil retro-surprise :p
HASBRO's 12" Signature Series. Was gunning for them a whiles' back too - specifically the Male-Apes (got it into my mind somehow to kitbash an entire squad of urban S.W.A.T-unit, but never really did take off...). Managed to secure a Gorilla Soldier, but the all-black Gorilla Sergeant escapes me still... (and NO, I don't want to buy yours - but if you want to GIVE it to me free? PM me! LOL)
He ditched his fellow simians and joined the Jedis... heh.
As disappointed as I personally was with Tim Burton's version of POTA, the toys totally tanked in another whole new level and dimension. A sad and dark period in toy collectibles history, I reckon ... altho truth be told, I did partaketh of a coupla boxes of the good General, so I could strip it for kitbash-parts LOL (on discount, of coz!)
I've always wanted to get a coupla Apes from Sideshow Collectible's line,
but always just seem to miss the discounts (I am el-cheapo grande, so there)
So will Hot Toys attempt a 1/6th-scaled ICARUS? *yikes*
