Event: Is This Home, Truly? @ Fortune Cookie Projects (March 4-22)


"Is This Home, Truly?" is touted as a "homecoming showcase of Graffiti Art in Singapore". Currently exhibiting at Fortune Cookie Projects, the event launched on March 4th and saw artworks on display from home-grown artists including Antz, Scopeone, Slacsatu, The Killer Gerbil, TR853-1 and Zero ~ as curated by Zaki Razak and Zul Othman, exhibiting alongside famed New York graffiti artist DAZE, who was also in town to execute a commissioned artwork for VivoCity. IS-THIS-HOME-TRULY


ZERO had two (36" x 48") paintings on display (posted above), featuring his iconic embolden facial-contours. The scarlet-faced is titled "Mental Block", while the blue backed is evocatively named "Self Gag". ZERO (aka Zul Othman) says: "My work makes a commentary on consumerism, the materialism and the mental void that it creates ... thus you see black block(s) of colours covering the paintings; obstructing them."

ANTZ showcased a trio of 48" x 48" paintings (Medium: aerosol + acrylic), collectively titled "3 bodies of buddha" (shown above): Buddha of Healing (YELLOW), Amitabha Buddha (RED) and Sakyamuni (ORANGE). As for what inspired his work, this was what Anthony Chong (aka ANTZ) had to share with us: "(the artwork was) inspired by my fave artist lichen. he has an artwork 3 bodies of buddha ... mine the "bodies" is more on the tattoos of the pandas instead."

DAZE (aka Chris Ellis) was in Singapore to create a mural at VivoCity's Amphitheatre (between 20 to 24 February 2010) which was to be 'permanently installed at the Sentosa Ticket Concourse at Level 3 of VivoCity. This will be Daze's first artwork on display in Singapore.' [read more via fortunecookieprojects.com]
