Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch (@ San Diego Comic Con 2010)
What looked like a glossy-series of gorgeous cute girls cosplaying turns out to be character banners for film-director Zack "300/Watchmen" Snyder's new movie: SUCKER PUNCH. Scheduled for a 2011 release, the film stars Carla Gugino, Vanessa Hudgens, Jena Malone, Jon Hamm, Michael Jai White, Abbie Cornish, Emily Browning, Jamie Chung. CLICK THRU for full images, along with film synopsis. Do keep your eyes open; for apparently footage of Sucker Punch will be shown at SDCC!
As intrigued and as smitten I was with the images, nothing could prepare me for images of the movie props and maquettes on display at Gentle Giant @ San Diego Comic Con 2010 [tagged] ~ for which both Slashfilm and SuperHeroHype had generous helpings of. And you will not be faulted for thinking alla these looked like a cosplay-party turned wild and twisted (as did I) ~ but the sight of the Mecha Walker (with "pink bunny" doodle) and WW1-era mashup soldier, made my eyes pop wide up, and relish the notion of a new "genre" of film to come! But most importantly (for me) was this thought: ooooohhh what glorious toys they would make! (Preferably in 1/6th-scaled, 'natch)

And after all the slick promo-images, here's a page-scan
of Entertainment Weekly courtesy of Slashfilm:
WHAT: Sucker Punch is an upcoming action-fantasy film written by Steve Shibuya and Zack Snyder, who is also directing the film. Sucker Punch features an ensemble female cast that includes Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Jamie Chung, and Jena Malone. The film follows a young girl in the 1950s about to be lobotomized and as she attempts to escape the asylum with her inmate friends.
The script, which was penned by Snyder and Shibuya, was finalized in five years and was actually planned to be made first before Watchmen, a film also directed by Snyder. Snyder had been working on the Sucker Punch story for six years, through filming of his other movies. For the shoot, he reassembled most of the Vancouver-based crew who worked on Watchmen.
The film is scheduled for a March 25, 2011 release in regular formats and IMAX ... Filming took place in some parts of Toronto and Vancouver, and lasted at least four months, from September 2009 until January 2010.
And here's a lil titbit connecting this movie to the "art toy culture", with this image above-right was designed by Alex Pardee as the first art for Sucker Punch, released during Watchmen's blu-ray live screening in San Diego. [All via Wiki]
