The Cultyard @ New York Comic Con 2010
The basic layman explanation of THE CULTYARD @ New York Comic Con is; "a show-within-a-show" ~ whereby there is a specific branding of collectible designer toys, urban apparel, art and illustration, independent magazine publications, animation, tech and entertainment ~ under the umbrella-culture for the art and design subculture genres ~ housed within a new pavilion. Basically where the cool stuff and cool people are, innit? :)
CULTYARD-MISSION: "Our goal is to enlist tastemakers, virtuosos, trendsetters, artists, thinkers, movers-doers and shakers of this potent design community and the potent brands they create."

NYCC happens October 8th thru to 10th, 2010 @ Jacob K. Javits Center, New York.
An initiative/concept borne of a collaboration between StrangeCo's Jim Crawford and The Loyal Subjects' Jonathan Cathey, the very first incarnation of The CULTYARD was a section for the San Diego Comic Con in 2004 - by which the Cultyard was a section within the larger Comic Con show that specifically focuses on the art and design convergence markets: artists, apparel brands, designer toy companies, animation businesses, book publishers, etc.
This year, Jonathan and Jim is collaborating with ReedPOP to help them develop a CULTYARD section for the New York Comic Con. "It's very cool - NYCC is the second largest pop culture convention in the US; in just a few short years it has really put itself on the map as a solid popular arts showcase on the East Coast."
(ReedPOP is also the producer for this year's Singapore Toy, Games and Comic Convention in Singapore, so that's a double-treat for me personally)
"ReedPOP's NYCC is a perfect fit for the Cultyard," states Jonathan Cathey, co-founder of The Cultyard, Inc. "It already exerts a great pop culture influence in one of the most design savvy cities in the world, and we are happy to take our circus on the road with them for a weekend of art and design proliferation."
"The New York Comic Con is a showcase for the worlds of popular culture, and we're proud now to expand our scope into the realms of indie and underground toys and art," notes Larry Settembrini, Sales Manager for NYCC and other ReedPOP events. "We put emphases on comic books, movies, television, anime, manga, and video games, and now -- through this partnership with The Cultyard -- we anticipate strong success and participation by a variety of forward-thinking brands in one of the most artistic, edgy, influential areas of the popular arts."
