KAWS: Passing Through @ Harbour City, Hong Kong (Oct 4-24)
The "Kult of KAWS" (as I term it) permeates thru popular pop culture moreso than people might realize, or even acknowledge, even beyond art and toys. One prime example is the KAWS: Passing Through event launching in Harbour City in Hong Kong, on October 4th, whose first initial online-image previewed a massive KAWS Companion wip-sculpt towering over Brian Donnelly aka KAWS himself, amidst a warehouse environment (peep below snap of the finished figure).
The amount of chatter I have both read, and personally experienced in my recent overseas trip/s ~ about that image ~ pretty much acted as testament to KAWS' work embedded within the psych and consciousness of folks who revel within the culture, regardless of how they feel about his work. It is as if the giant sculpt was something that people thought could be purchased with a snap, like his recently released Pinocchio and Tweety vinyls from Medicom Toy, IMHO. Bravo, Mr. Donnelly ;)
