Solidboy V.2 @ Taipei Toy Festival 2011 (Plastic Culture booth A7) / The Difference Between V.1 & V.2
I had specifically asked Johanes Djauhari (from Bismarck Toy Lab - also known as papertoy-designer Saltnpaper) - the creator of the all-wood SolidBoy - about the differences between V.1 and V.2, and the answers reveal more than just casual aesthetics (that's why to me, it rocks!)
Standing at a near 7 inches tall, the all-wood carved and shaped Solidboy V.2 is limited to 50pcs produced worldwide and will see it's debut release at the coming Taipei Toy Festival, as a Plastic Culture-exclusive at booth A7. Retail for this slice of awesomeness is US$190 per. Shown here are first-look snaps direct from the lens of the creator himself!
"I (had) redesign the skin pattern to be more aggressive this time around. You can see a striking contrast on the masks pattern where V1 now look kind of docile compared to V2. Since the concept of Solidboy is about a masked spectre that roam around feeding on memories, I want to how different memories can alter the look of Solidboy." ~Johanes.
"The details on the other body parts are totally different too. While V1 got floral pattern in his arms, V2 is now bearing a batik pattern called "Parang Rusak" which mean Broken Knife. Traditionally this pattern is only worn by the proud Javanese warriors who came back from the glorious battle." ~Johanes.
"Maintaining the eco-friendly idealism, all Solidboy V2 are made with recycle wood. Every wood block is individually hand picked to maintain the quality. Unlike vinyl or plastic toys which remain the same for years, as an organic material wood will give you different look from year to year. You could see how V1 color is now more red-ish compared to V2. What we see here is a 100% nature at work. I'm sure any collector will love to see how the wood show it's beauty reveal as it age." ~Johanes.
