Official Press for VINYL + SPLASH @ Fullybooked (Nov 26)
We've posted artwork peeks earlier for the upcoming VINYL + SPLASH event happening on November 26, now here we have the official event press, along with even more images to share, of what is to expect from the show! Shown below-right is a "would be" cover to All Winners Squad #7 by Mico Suayan (Marvel cancelled the series) donated to the auction with 100% of proceeds going to WFP = Excellent!
EVENT-PRESS: Fully Booked in cooperation with Vinyl on Vinyl, Comic Odyssey, and Red Nimbus will be hosting the first Philippine comic and collectible convention entitled, VINYL + SPLASH on November 26, 2011 at Fully Booked Bonifacio High Street. Gates open at 10:00 a.m., and admission is free.
There will be trading blocks, comic book signings, giveaways and prizes, and an ART JAM wherein the participating artists will combine their efforts to create a piece that will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. An after party will take place in the same venue featuring the beats of DJ Caliph 8, himself a known local graffiti artist.

PRESS-CONTINUED: There will also be a 2-week exhibit, which will include vintage Filipino art, and will feature the work of the participating artists, which will begin on November 12, 2011 at the G/L Atrium of Fully Booked Bonifacio High Street and will culminate on the day of the convention.
Part of the proceeds of the exhibit and the ART JAM will be donated to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in support of the fight against hunger in the Philippines.

PRESS-CONTINUED: The event will showcase the works of local talent ranging from comic to vinyl collectible to street art. It will feature established comic artists, such as Leinil Yu (New Avengers, Secret Invasion), 2011 Eisner nominee and 2011 Prix Asie-ACBD awardee Gerry Alanguilan (Elmer, Wolverine, Ultimate Avengers), 2003 Eisner awardee Lan Medina (Fables, Silver Surfer), and Mico Suayan (X-Men: Legacy, Thor), among many other comic notables.
The convention's Special Guest is comic book art stalwart Tony de Zuniga, co-creator of comic characters Black Orchid and Jonah Hex, and one of the first Filipino comic book artists to gain international recognition. Mr. de Zuniga recently garnered The 2011 San Diego Comic-Con Inkpot award.

PRESS-CONTINUED: The convention will also feature the works of emerging Pinoy artists, known for their fearless experimentation with alternative and more contemporary mediums. Among these are the gifted musician, tattoo artist, and artist Sarah Gaughler; Bru Sim and Marcushiro Nada from graphic design duo Electrolychee whose work has graced album covers to event posters to statement tees; Manila’s Sharpie boy Gabby Tiongson known for his freehand anatomical-themed art; Ramona Gaston’s graffiti artists Ungga who’s fresh from his one-man show and Nemo Aguila's whimsical monsterisms on handcrafted lamps, canvas, walls, and vinyl collectibles have made him one of the favorites in the local street art scene; Rotobox, an international household name in the vinyl community, among many other fine, young local artists.
The event is a joint effort of the sponsors to promote and educate the general public on the burgeoning underground visual art movement and to celebrate the work of Filipino comic book artists who have made their mark worldwide from as early as the 1960s.
