Incoming Cyberpunk Streaming Shows: Blade Runner 2099 & Neuromancer



The future is bleak, there has never been a doubt. At least the next two "cyberpunk"-themed sci-fi projects/revealed during the past weekend's San Diego Comic-Con were ... not "apocalyptical", but an implosion of "high tech and low life" ... although I've always wondered if the writers of the source-novels could have envisioned "doom-scrolling" ...? Onwards to our collective dismal futures...!

"Blade Runner 2099" premieres November 25 on Prime Video.



The story take place fifty years after the events of "Blade Runner 2049", with this 6-episoder streaming series starring Michelle Yeoh as "Olwen" (a Replicant Blade Runner who is in the final days of her life), and Hunter Schafer as "Cora" (Olwen's partner and a human pretending to be a replicant).

Both this and 2049 were based on Philip K. Dick's 1968 novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?".

What has caught my attention for 2099, as well as 2049, was the showcase of more "daytime" environments, wherew my memories of the first Blade Runner were mostly of night time, and perhaps in a way that visual concept had intrigued me from the beginning, of "what happens in the dead of the neon-soaked night-time", than what lurks around the skyscrappers during the day-grind, which to me perhaps is the iconism of "cyhber-punk" is the depiction of night-time, IMHO... But of course that has been the narrow-mindedness which has plagued my adult-life, innit?





SYNOPSIS for NEUROMANCER: A damaged hacker named Case, thrust into digital espionage and high stakes crime with Molly, pulling a heist on corporate dynasty.



Consisting of 10 episodes this first season, the series stars Callum Turner as "Case", with this cyberpunk series adapted from William Gibson's 1984 novel "Neuromancer". Streaming on Apple TV on January 22. See you on the other side, cowboy.
