it's in the details

:: LIFE IN SINGAPORE / WORK / DESIGN / TOYS ::
whenever im in a production (be it film or teevee), i've always "tried" to incorporate toys or comics into the set-design, and sometimes i do get away with murder with it all, sometimes blind-siding the directors (*chuckle*), most times with deliberate intent and motivation ... and most of the times, i'd thrawl the net looking at stuff i wished i could procure and use for my sets ... but alas, with the dismal budgets doled out by local productions, all these are but lingering wishes in my mind's eye and remain on my "wishlist"; ever silently so ... which is quite a shame really, IMHO :p

here's an "example" of what could have been "accomplished" with the "right props":

what could've been accomplished - and mayhap given it a wee bit of "cred"; street or youth culture, otherwise ...?

A. My Beating Heart Plush Pillows as designed by Yuri Gitman [via plastic+plush] = perfect for a teenage-girl's bedroom! (and i had about three different rooms to refurbish)

B. stickers and graphics from local art collective 1819 = extreme cool and bordering on subliminal street/youth-culture (am sure im describing it all wrong here *bah*), ala Obey Giant, but with the emphasis on design. [via tomorrow.sg] > a shout-out to local design culture, yo! :)

C. Cosmic Quigly plushes, designed by Thomas Han and produced by Wheaty Wheat [via plastic+plush] = for that quirky and cuddly touch, while retaining a sense of "character", as opposed to the "generic" (or "mass-produced-consumerism") of a Hello Kitty or any other "money-pop-culture" ... am i making any sense here? *heh* :p

D. "designer floor rugs" from the fine folks down at circuspunks. [via plastic+plush] = altho some might argue that you might not even get to see the floor, in a screen-composition ... but i say, NAY! - for everything counts, is all it boils down to, IMHO. hey, what could go wrong with a >Sun-Min Kim, Frank Kozik, Tim Biskup or a Joe Ledbetter designed rug, innit? *heh*

E. okay, maybe a giant plush "Smoking Bunny" dun work that well on ye local telly (even one as designed by Frank Kozik) - in fact, tis *discouraged* ("smoking", i mean) ... so yeah, im just being greedy *BAH* :p

of coz i'd personally lurve to have some Blythe Dolls - main protagonists in the production im working on now are supposidly "fashion design students", t'would be great to have these gals on the set of at least one of the girl's bedroom; for "inspiration" and all that lah hahahaha (*bleh*) ... but of coz these are but "prop-dressing" (if ya wanna be picky about it) and "hardly substantial", in the "bigger scheme" of things ... altho if i had my way, i'd die to have either Pete Fowler's ChairFix or heck, throw in a medicom life entertainment's Fabrick sofa-pattern, innit? *i wish*

... in the end, tis all about the details, innit? IMHO, of coz *heh*
