toysrevil's top 6 vinyl toys of 2006 countdown: number 3
continuing with the Toysrevil's Top 6 Vinyl Toys of 2006-coutndown has Kidrobot's Gorillaz up @ Number 3!
this particular set has an important "personal" value to me, mostly becoz it was the winning prize in my first ever online customization attempt (yes, im selling myself to bits here, i know) and that means a lot more to me than folks might suspect, so there! *heh* :p
i missed the first bigger sized series (no moolah, 'natch) and when i saw these online, i was a tad apprehensive about the smaller size - but was sold when i saw them in hand when it hit the local toyshops - but the trick of it all was; i was naively waiting for the result of the VA/Anarchy-contest, hoping that i might have a chance, as slim as it may have been, ya know? :p
plus Mike (of Ozzo) told me the set was going fast and i was quite hesitant to "reserve" a piece, much less be able to afford it (i could, but it would have meant eating bread and instant noodles until my next freelance pay-cheque came in, innit? BAH) but i left empty handed and trawled the net the following week for any sign of the result.
then the results came out and i was literally speechless and i did a double, triple and quadruple takes before it sank in that i had won, and with it, the Gorillaz set! *whoo-hoo*
the farnie thing was, i had forgotten all about it after that, even when the parcel arrived at my doorstep (read here). and i am ashamed to say, these images you see in this post were the first time i took them out for a snap. (note: i have ZERO display space@home)
besides the mike-stand base being irritatingly loose and i'd misgivings about the drum design (dude can't even hold it!), i just lurve that the likeness and style of Jaime Hewlett's drawings had come to vinyl-life, with surprisingly decent detailing and paintjob = *schrweeeeet* :)
