conceptual art of that new gatchaman movie

remember that animated Gatchaman "maybe-movie" i featured a coupla months back? well, now there's conceptual artwork to tease our collective retro-anime-lurving hearts [via/via]

*more images after the jump*

from the animation house that did Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, comes these glorious conceptual artwork/images from Imagi Studios (a Hong Kong animation studio)

"TMNT writer/director Kevin Munroe is developing Gatchaman for a release in 2008. The original Gatchaman story revolves around five young superhero ninjas engaged by the International Science Organization to oppose a group of technologically advanced villains, known as Galactor, from trying to take control of the Earth's natural resources. To do so, the ninjas battle various giant monsters deployed by Galactor to capture rare resources." [via]

and amidst the images, comes this lone striking visual that tugs at your retro-memories:

"The Astro Boy adaptation is coming to theaters in 2009. Astro Boy follows the adventures of a robot created in the image of a child but with extraordinary powers. Lost in a complex future world, Astro Boy must learn to find his place. With the help of his friends, he discovers how to use his powers for good."

  5. Yeah, that does look pretty sweet. I just hope they stick with the original idea behind Gatchaman and make the movie Earth-bound. Of course, it's way too much to ask to see it in Japanese with e-subs. :)
