you've got mail

i have a small confession. i like mail. i like receiving mail (and no, "bills" do not bloody count). physical stamped-envelop-mail, and especially parceled mail (which most times means toys and/or freebies) ... there used to be a time, when i enjoyed sending out mail too ... and not just boxed-toys i used to sell offa ebay (that became a "chore" eventually), but simple festival-related activities, like christmas cards, chinese new year cards ... there was even a time (eons ago) where i'd even send off hand-made/drawn self-promotional cards and flyers ... now? i send off e-mailers as much as i receive them :p ... and now, seems "traditional" mail is inching it's way into pop/art culture again...

*more after the jump*

Darren Di Lieto (founder and editor of LCSV4) has created the MAILmeART project whereby you'd send in envelopes or packages which have been drawn on (in any medium), but must have travelled through the post (ie: stamped and postman delivered)
"the wrapping is your canvas or in most cases an envelope" [via]

... and you'd get to win prizes, and subsequently, the "artwork" will be exhibited, where it will be available for sale, with the artist receiving 70% from the sale = click here for the submission details and mailing address :)

and now that the mail's done, where does it go? into the R2D2 mailbox, of coz!

to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Star Wars, the US Postal office gives 2 dozen American mailboxes a mecha-makeover, as part of a gimmick to promote a new stamp out March 28 [via] "The R2-D2 boxes will pop up in 200 cities nationwide. In New York, most will be in high-traffic areas in Manhattan, like 43rd St. and Broadway, 58th St. and Fifth Ave., and 33rd St. and Seventh Ave." - altho Gizmodo reports that they'll appear on Ebay instead tho :p

and not to be outdone, Singapore's own Postal Service's STAMP postbox-design competition [blogged] has picked their top 40 design submissions and can be viewed here

time to whip that envelope out, pop open that marker/pen cap and get
ready to lick them stamps, yeh? *heh*
