TOYSREVIL: how did e440 come about? what was it's genesis?
RING: I initiated e440 because I wanted to create my own 3D character. I picked paper as my material since it is cheap and readily available. My first draft resembled a cat at best and after reading an article about the annihilation of 440 squirrels at Schiphol airport* I decided to make it into a squirrel.TRE: cool :) - what does "e440" mean?
RING: E is derived from "Eekhoorn" [squirrel in Dutch], 440 is the number of slaughtered squirrels.The aim of my project is to come up with 440 different interpretations of e440 and to release them on the internet, including the customizable blank template. Customized versions will be available for free downloading from my blog. I hope many designs will follow...
TRE: now that's a cool idea, Ring! send over a template and i'll try to contribute to the online-"release"! - any future plans for e440?
RING: This summer i want to exhibit the e440 project over here in the Netherlands. I have some nice locations and shops in mind (hopefully i find the guts to contact the owners....)
TOYSREVIL: just haveta go do it, Ring! maybe with the support of more designs from folks all over, might help? IMHO - any last comments you'd like to share with my readers?
RING: (fact #1) e440 takes four sheets of A4 paper (fact#2) In 1990 KLM Cargo cut 440 living squirrels into bits using a shredder because the required bills of health were missing* ~ Cheers, Ring.
