Of Iron Men, Ultrons and Avengers

I was admiring fanboy-gushing over the schweet silvery-pics of IRON MAN's MARK-2 armor when i'd thought the shiny-silver-surface reminded me quite a bit of The Avenger's android arch-nemesis, ULTRON and thought that maybe it would be a pretty-cool link (if any) to the impending Avengers Movie (personally a more interesting connection rather than War Machine, IMHO - how many IM-Armors do ya wanna see in a single flick?), altho remembering it was Hank Pym who'd created Ultron in the first place ... then a little online-sleuthing proved my comicbook-knowledge was wanting and I was but a comicbook-tourist, a rank novice ... CLICKETH

WHO IS ULTRON?
"Ultron is a fictional Marvel Comics supervillain created by writer Roy Thomas and artist John Buscema. Ultron is an android that believes in the superiority of mechanical entities over humans and organic life in general, and has often endeavored to either exterminate those "lesser" beings or convert them into mechanical forms. The character first appeared in Avengers #54 (1968).

... Ultron has many different links to the Avengers; most prominently, he regards Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne, founding members of the team, as his 'parents', and has developed an Oedipus complex in his relationship with them, attempting to kill Hank and once using Janet's brain patterns to try and create a bride for himself. Ultron's original 'bride', Jocasta, also went on to become a member of the team, and his second 'wife', Alkhema, became a significant threat to the group in her own right.

... Iron Man has also admitted to some personal discomfort around Ultron, the robot reminding him of all the times his armor has been stolen and used to kill innocent people; his discomfort most likely increased after his armor became sentient and attempted to kill him after unintentionally absorbing the programmed 'Ultron Imperative' when downloading Jocasta's intelligence to save her life."

/// I say junk the Jocasta-link, and stick to a pure Ultron-connection for the AVENGERS Movie! As any self-respective comicbook-reader would know, "Hank Pym" is the ANTMAN (who later became GIANT MAN as well) while "Janet van Dyne" is The WASP in the earlier incarnation / line-up of The Avengers - which also includes The Incredible HULK, The Mighty THOR, The Invincible IRON MAN, and subsequently after the Hulk had left, CAPTAIN AMERICA ... and if you didn't know this before? Now you do! (Always looking-out for converts, I am :p)

/// As much as fans would love a WAR MACHINE-link to Iron Man, I am quite indifferent to a fault, as I'm not too much a fan-of - altho I would not deny it would be cool, specifically if they'd utilize Jim Rhodes' military training as a basis for his operating the armor (as compared to Stark, who had no training at all prior to shooting Repulsor-rays at terrorists and insurgents, innit? IMHO) - but how many flying armors you'd want in the air? IM will no longer be "special" and personally, I'd really not like to see too many flyers until it becomes absolutely trite and unbelievable - but of coz, that's just me.

/// Thor is a Norse God of Thunder, and he flies. Antman rides on a flying ant, while the Wasp has her own wings (all via comicbooks). Then there will be Iron Man. Hell, even the Hulk jumps! Captain America's gonna be sore from all that ruing around jumping across rooftops tho ... or maybe he'd hitch a ride with S.H.I.E.L.D's hoover-cars, innit? ... Don't go all sci-fi on me too soon, is all I'm asking... ... altho it may seem things may go by way of The ULTIMATES or ULTIMATE AVENGERS DVD-movie (both with the Hulk as public-enemy #1 - at least in the cartoon movie, yeh?) as opposed to Classic Marvel Universe AVENGERS - or perhaps an amalgam of both, yeh?

/// Rumors of the Avengers-movie had been swirling amidst the www for a while now, but as reported on AICN (via Yahoo Finance) - the future is already set:

"Marvel plans to launch its 2010 film slate with the release of the sequel, Iron Man 2, on April 30, 2010, followed by the launch of Thor on June 4, 2010. Additionally, Marvel is planting its feature film stakes for summer 2011 with an Avengers-themed summer – a two-picture project which will debut on May 6, 2011 with The First Avenger: Captain America (working title), followed by The Avengers in July 2011."

/// ... now all we have to wait for are the scripts and stories to unfold ... but can we wait that long? hell, no doubt we'll ALL be having fun speculating about them for the next few years, innit? At the very least, I would! LOL
