Singapore 2010: Introducing Youth Olympic Games Mascots Lyo & Merly

LYO-MERLY-MASCOTS

Singapore hosts the world's first Youth Olympic Games [www] which launched August 14th the Saturday just, with daily events leading up to the closing on August 26th, 2010. Check out the Opening Ceremony on video here (a crying shame they do not allow embedding) ~ a sharp contrast with the next day's concert, as seen from these snaps (from Leonard Soosay on FB). Nevertheless, this is an opportunity to introduce the mascots for YOG: LYO & MERLY!

Lyo is a Lion Cub, while Merly is a Merlion* Cub ~ both of whom have been made into a myriad of collectibles, including plushies (which has since shown to be sold out online). Pretty adorable, I do admit. What do YOU folks think?

FYI: *The merlion is a mythical sea creature that is part lion and part fish. It is inspired by Singaporean folklore and Singapore’s fishing village origins.
